Conteúdo do emprego
Vaar Systems is an ambitious and fast-growing startup on a mission to revolutionize marine propulsion with high-performance, clean energy systems. At Vaar, we don’t just build batteries—we engineer integrated energy solutions that electrify the future of marine transport.
We’re currently looking for a talented and driven Expert Battery System Engineer with a strong background in medium-voltage (MV) design to join our core MARINEPOWER development team. Based in our Andenne office, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team developing one of the first fully integrated MV battery + converter systems for direct ship propulsion.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the frontier of marine electrification, help define the technical architecture of a next-generation battery system, and shape a fast-moving company from the inside.
Responsibilities:
As the lead engineer for MV battery design, you will be responsible for:
● Architecting and validating the electrical and physical design of a medium-voltage battery system for maritime applications (+5,000 VDC).
● Defining insulation, thermal protection, fault containment, and grounding strategies.
Conducting safety and failure mode analyses (FMEA, arc flash, etc.) in line with marine certification standards.
● Collaborating with BMS and converter engineers to ensure safe and reliable system-level operation.
● Selecting and qualifying cells and components that meet MV electrical and maritime mechanical requirements.
● Supporting lab integration, test planning, and type approval documentation (e.g., DNV, BV, ABS).
● Providing input into the manufacturing and industrialization plan for MV battery modules.
Qualifications:
● MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related discipline.
● Minimum 5 years of experience in high-voltage or medium-voltage energy storage systems
● Proven experience in battery module design, especially in high-reliability or safety-critical environments (marine, rail, aerospace, etc.).
● Familiarity with shipboard electrical architectures, maritime standards (IEC 60092, IEC 62485), and classification body requirements.
● Strong command of tools for electrical simulation CAD (SolidWorks/EPLAN), and safety analysis.
● Excellent analytical skills and a hands-on, solution-driven mindset.
● Strong communication skills in English & French
Bonus Points:
● Experience working with MMC converters or hybrid marine propulsion systems.
● Prior exposure to type approval processes for maritime or offshore systems.
● Experience with fire suppression, mechanical integration, and naval safety constraints.
Benefits:
● Competitive salary and benefits package.
● Bonus based on performance.
● Opportunity to work on cutting-edge battery technology.
● Collaborative, supportive, and fun work environment!
● Potential for professional growth and development.
