Functieomschrijving
The Health Unit of VITO is looking for a FAIR data expert who will contribute to the design and implementation of distributed data infrastructures for storage, access and reuse of all relevant data to support EU-wide stakeholders in assessing the impact of chemicals on human health. In collaboration with European research partners, EU agencies and risk assessment agencies in EU member states you will facilitate reuse of data from various sources and domains through application of FAIR principles and technologies.
Your main focus will be on harmonization of data, on metadata, and on intradomain and cross-domain interoperability of datasets, starting from existing and broadly adopted (meta)data standards, vocabularies and ontologies. You will combine large repositories and databases, containing well-curated datasets, and smaller distributed data repositories created within the scope of research projects. Within VITO you will work closely together with experts of the Data Science Hub and with domain experts on Environment & Health.
Algemene vereisten
For this position we expect that
- You have a thorough knowledge on the practical use of data and metadata standards, vocabularies, ontologies and catalogues.
- You can implement practical solutions to enable technical, semantic and legal interoperability across the different research domains in chemical risk analysis, following the FAIR data principles.
- You are flexible, agile and eager to interact and collaborate
- with experts and stakeholders in different domains (environment, food, health, toxicology, modelling, open science, …), to understand their needs, requirements and constraints, and the specificities of their domain of expertise;
- with data-technical experts, discussing, adopting and, where necessary, adapting existing solutions for interoperability and reuse of data.
- You organize your work independently and you take the lead to get things forward.
- You speak and write English at full professional level.
Preferably, you are familiar with federated data infrastructures, Environment & Health data and chemicals risk assessment data, and with use and reuse of personal, sensitive data, taking into account legal and ethical boundaries, and you worked successfully in a highly multidisciplinary context.
