About the RoleLead Java developer for Alliance Cloud, an application adopting a distributed micro-service architecture leveraging Apache Kafka as a communication bus and workload distribution mechanism

We are looking for an experienced Java backend developer who excels at creating exceptional quality applications to join our Journey to Cloud tribe at SWIFT, the tribe responsible for driving the adoption of Alliance Cloud as the customer default of utilizing our SWIFT platform.

Based in Belgium, you will be working as a member of a dynamic team, mostly based in Malaysia, that is responsible for end-to-end delivery – from customer engagement to operations.

Your position in Belgium will be leveraged to facilitate interactions with other SWIFT teams based in Belgium or in US.

You will have a unique opportunity to expand your reach in term of knowledge and network, and to build your expertise through SWIFT’s global platform.

What to expect?
  • You will work on an application distributed across multiple data centers, with an architecture based on micro-services and synchronous replication through Apache Kafka.
  • You will use a range of proven technologies, such as Apache Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, to bring 24/7 availability and resiliency to our customers.
  • You will contribute to design and technical decisions, and provide guidance to more junior members of the team.
  • You will design, develop, test (including automated unit and integration tests), and support micro-services following DevOps best practices.
  • You will work in a truly international environment with main hubs across 3 continents. In particular, y ou will be based in Belgium, part of a team mainly based in Malaysia, and make the link with teams based in US.
  • You will assist in resolving problems reported by customers in production, or by team members / qualification people in test environments, with the objective of achieving timely and quality delivery.

Technical Skills

(Levels: Junior: 1-3 yrs, Specialist: 3-5 yrs, Expert: >5 yrs)

  • Expert - Java backend developer with eight years of experience (Java 8 or newer, preference for Java 11).
  • Expert - Knowledge of continuous delivery process and technologies (Jenkins, GIT, Maven, Jira, Docker, Kubernetes, Kibana).
  • Specialist - Automation of unit test, integration testing, mocking tools (JUnit, Mockito, etc...).
  • Specialist - Knowledge of databases ( JPA, Oracle, H2, ) and data modelling.
  • Specialist - Experience with API related technologies such as SOAP, REST, Json, etc...
  • Specialist - Exposure to various OS platforms: Windows, Linux (Redhat).
  • Specialist - SSL/TLS, HTTP/S, XML (schema, parsing, …) .
  • Junior - Exposure to Apache Kafka & Zookeeper.
  • Junior - Experience with event sourcing architecture.
  • Junior - Prior experience with SWIFT internal products like SWIFTAlliance Access and SWIFTNet is a plus.
