Who are we looking for?
The production area manager, manages an operational team that has the responsibility of executing all operations within the designated area.
He/she is responsible for the process compliance with prescribed safety and quality standards.
He/she sets up a continuous improvement plan to improve the performance (quality, safety & productivity) on a perpetual basis and establishes a strong safety culture
He/she is budget owner for material and manpower of the plant and manages local operational customer relations to ensure a smooth operation and customer service.
Within the provided framework by central department engineering, is responsible for (i) defining standards and norms, (ii) engineering of lastmile/firstmile, (iii) managing the relationship with infrastructure manager at local level.
What are your duties?
- Support creation and implement the company’s operational vision and strategy within the designated area and ensure that company policies and procedures are followed at all times.
- Ensure compliance with operational policies to ensure a safe and proper production environment.
- Define targets, supervise and follow up quality/safety/productivity KPI’s.
- Organize and manage the area, taking into account the needs of other departments in order to deliver the desired production and on-time targets.
- Continuously look for process and system improvements where possible in close collaboration with the Continuous Improvement team and the process owners …to increase performance and to ensure a safe and smooth end-to-end transport process.
- Manage operational contacts with local customers & affiliates (shippers, terminals) with the aim of improving the E2E quality of the supply chain.
- Take up the role of project-lead, or team member in numerous local/E2E improvement projects
- Draw up, manage and monitor the operating budget and provide corrective adjustments in order to obtain an optimal allocation of operating resources.
- Represent the production department in the organization in order to optimally defend the interests and needs of the department.
- Consult and promote contacts with the social partners, within the framework of the general organizational guidelines in order to promote social peace in the department.
- Define specific norms & standards linked to the operational local activities as input for the engineering of products.
- (Re)-engineer Last/Firstmile-, Shunting- and Transport concepts in collaboration with and within the provided framework of the central engineering department
- Manage relationship with Infrabel manager at local level (infrastructure, equipment, incident management,…) Manage infrastructure needs and developments at a local level as basis for input for long term investment discussion on national level
- Implement a strategy for safety culture and act as a safety ambassador for operations Belgium.
- Manage accurate investigations related to safety incidents in close cooperation with the Safety Department and use root-cause analysis to ensure structural improvement plans
- Coach and develop your team in order to optimally use and develop the competencies, skills and know-how and to work as a well-functioning department. Ensure a context of open & transparent communication (upstream-downstream) and inspire team. Promote actively within his team the collaboration with other departments
What is your profile?
- You have at least 5 years of pure operational management experience
- You are able to manage relationship internally and externally (Customers / partners) in order to create a common vision and goal
- You are result oriented and have a Project management approach
- Your operational experience in supply chain environment has been proven.
- People management experience in an operational environment is crucial
- Safety is important to you and you have a strong aptitude for root cause analysis and troubleshooting operational issues
- Of course you have excellent organizational and time-management skills
- You communicate well and clearly to all levels of the organization in all necessary languages (Dutch and English are required)
- You have a master degree or equivalent by experience
- Affinity with rail is a big plus.
