Conteúdo do emprego

The Faculty of Engineering Technology has academic programs at its campus in Ghent and Aalst. This position is mainly situated in the bachelor and master program of Engineering Technology: lectronics-ICT and in the research group Wireless and Mobile Communications of the Electrical Engineering Department (ESAT) with research topics in the domain of indoor localization (RF, acoustic) and related applications in location-based services and context awareness, technologies for sensor networks, visible light communication, wireless power transfer and other smart wireless systems.
Project

The candidate will develop solutions to improve the energy efficiency of wireless communications, in a cell-free massive MIMO context. Novel signal processing algorithms will be developed, under realistic hardware constraints. This implies using advanced models for, e.g.,the consumption of power amplifiers, taking into account their nonlinearbehavior. As shown by preliminary research, these constraints can lead to radically different technological solutions than the ones known in the state of the art. These findings imply that conventionalsignal processing operations should be revisited: channel estimation, precoding, decoding, synchronization, … All of this should be investigated in a distributed context with nodes, potentially asynchronous and having limited access to information.

The solutions derived in this work will bebased on analytical developments, validated through numerical simulations and in the indoor Techtile testbed of the DRAMCO lab.
Profile
