Innovation is a key pilar of Tereos’ Strategy for the Future. The R&D roadmap and SUSTAIN’2030 strategy together support Tereos in its ambition to grow by developing innovative and sustainable solutions to meet changing customer expectations, as well as innovating and optimizing our existing processes.

To strengthen the Innovation, Product, and Process Development (IPPD) team, located in the Tereos Corporate Technology Center, we are looking for a Sustainable Innovation Engineer with expertise in life cycle assessments and process modelling. The position will report to the Sustainable Innovation Manager, with a functional reporting line to head of Tereos’ Corporate Social Responsibility department. In your expert role you will support the Innovation, Product, and Process Development team to assure new innovations and optimizations are aligned with Tereos’ sustainability objectives, and assist the CSR team in obtaining product specific environmental impact assessments.

The following are roles & responsibilities for the Sustainable Innovation Engineer:

  • Support the R&D team in attaining short-term and long-term development goals;
  • Carry out Life Cycle Assessment for new product & process developed by the IPPD team, to meet sustainable innovation goals;
  • Utilize process modelling capabilities and know-how to support the IPPD team in the mission to develop of new products, as well as improve of existing products and manufacturing processes;
  • Use process modeling to assess potential process innovations & optimizations allowing energy, CO2, and water reduction;
  • Leverage internal and external technology capabilities to develop products that meet customer needs and sustainability targets;
  • Use Life Cylce Assessment methodology to calculate product specific environmental characteristics, in collaboration with the Corporate Social Responsibility, Industrial Operations, and Commercial departments
  • Contribute to the safe and sustainable lab and pilot management;
  • Build expertise related to your domain, review scientific literature and patent publications, connect with external network;
  • Gather the available and incoming information for new ideas, to evaluate them, to report exploratory results and to translate ideas in new project proposals;
  • Support the innovation stage gate process: brainstorming and ideation sessions, feasibility, concept development, market launch;
  • Act as a project leader or a team member in (cross)department projects;

Location:

The position is based in Aalst, Belgium, where the Tereos Corporate Technology Center is located. Traveling to the Tereos Campus Europe in France, the production sites and the external partners is needed. Fluency in English and French is required.

Profile:

The ideal candidate holds a master degree in bio-engineering sciences / environmental sciences and brings minimum 5 years of academic and industrial experience as engineer/scientist in the field of life cycle assessment and process modelling related to industrial processes in a relevant industry.

The candidate will combine strong scientific knowledge with technical skills, a hands-on approach, and a will demonstrate the ability to apply rigorous methodology to provide key tangible metrics in line with Tereos’ sustainable innovation approach. The candidate will bring technical and scientific support to the production plants and other departments.

Project management skills and being able to manage several internal and external stakeholders is key.

A good understanding of the business environment is essential. The ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects requiring high attention to detail and intense deadlines will contribute to success in the role.

The person has experience working in a collaborative team-oriented environment and is at ease to interact and collaborate with all functional levels and functions. The ability to present ideas effectively and to communicate with all levels of management is required.

The person is a team player with energy and drive, and a results-oriented approach.
