Function

The Elia grid is constantly evolving. The Grid Development Department conducts studies with a view to incorporating a range of data on the state of the grid and determining the investments needed to offer what capacity users want while maintaining a high level of reliability.

Within this framework, the Regional Grid Development Team is responsible for collecting and analysing all the needs arising on Elia’s regional transmission network (<380kV). Working together closely with PSP, different grid development options are compared based on a multi-criteria approach and a preferred development path is proposed for the short, medium and long term.

After having obtained the buy-in of the different departments involved, this development vision must then be defended in front of the relevant bodies. Once approved, the team will translate this development vision by initiating specific projects in the project portfolio before coming to an agreement with the Infrastructure Department.

Your role within the Regional Grid Development Department includes technical and budgetary aspects and above all involves close cooperation with many Elia departments (Asset Management, Infrastructure, MAC, CURE, PRA, Netop, etc.).

You will therefore amass technical and economic expertise in grid development and will help justify the chosen development vision both in-house and to regulators, distribution system operators and grid users wanting to modify an existing connection or establish a new one.

In light of the ongoing energy transition, particular attention must be paid to the electrification of households and industry and its impact on the vertical grid. As an expert in regional grid development, you will play a key role in laying down the grid development criteria that will allow us to ensure a high level of grid reliability in the future. You will represent Grid Development’s vision in internal and external working groups in order to make the best decisions in the interest of the community.

Lastly, you will be part of an experienced, dynamic and motivated team and will have a varied workload.

Your Profile
  • You hold a degree in industrial or civil engineering (in electricity, electromechanics, mechanics or electronics) and are interested in grid development.
  • You have at least five years’ experience in the field of electricity.
  • You possess an analytical mind and great evaluation skills.
  • You have sound interpersonal skills and can persuade others to see your point of view (both orally and in writing).
  • You work well in a team and have a sense of initiative.
  • You can work independently while following in-house procedures.
  • You have an excellent command of Dutch, English and French.
