Mission :

For our Andenne’s Puratos Site we are looking for a Research Manager Genetic Engineering.

Become an expert in up to date/emerging/innovative technologies in order to develop the best strains and processes for proteins/enzymes production which leads to Puratos’ business expectations.

Key tasks

• Establish and share strong knowledge and strategies for microbial strain engineering and strain/process understanding
• Perform laboratory research to gain understanding of the overall project strategy (using traditional and innovative tools)
• Design and implementation of new genetic tools and/or strategies to obtain strains that optimize the production of target proteins.
• Manage “omics” strategies and methodologies including data analysis
• Contribute to build the technical background and expertise in the new emerging fields and other more conventional approaches by training people
• Collaborate closely with discovery and bioprocess teams to develop the best performing strain and fermentation process

• Manage external activities and collaborations, in an international context
• Promote and maintain a network of contacts within universities and other institutions
• Manage or contribute to external projects with academics or institutes
• Look for and participate to conferences and consortiums in the field (BACELL, Eurofung, Gram positive meeting,…)
• Manage or contribute to subcontracting of activities for the main fields.

• Manage small-scale screening cultivation platform
• Perform wet-lab experiments in microbioreactors, microtiter plates and shake flasks
• Develop methods and draft new protocols
• Ensure training for users
• Ensure maintenance plan (extern and intern) and supply of consumables
• Technological survey (methods and equipments + Capex) and external collaborations

• Train and manage people
• Students, trainees and newcomers
• Train colleagues
• Reinforce and spread the knowledge and the new methodologies developed
  

Profile ?

• PhD or master with equivalent research experience in molecular biology, bioengineering, microbiology, biochemistry or other related field preferred
• Proficient in molecular biology/genetic engineering benchwork
• Deep knowledge in heterologous enzyme/protein expression
• Knowledge in bioinformatics data analysis is an asset (omics techniques)
• Problem solving and “can do” approach
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Adaptability
• Project management
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-functional study team
• Ability to work in matrix structure and collaborate with different teams
