The European Commission’ science and knowledge service, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) offers a vacancy for a Scientific Project Officer. The jobholder will be responsible for making contributions to the preparatory actions of the EU Product Compliance Network and market surveillance cooperation.

The current vacancy is in the Directorate for Health, Consumers and Reference Materialsin Geel (Belgium)within the Food & Feed Compliance Unit - responsible for the support to the harmonised implementation of food and feed legislation through the provision of reliable measurement solutions and standards for evidence based decision-making concerning the safety of the food chain. The mandate of the Unit has been expanded to include compliance of other products of relevance to the Single Market.

The tasks of the successful candidate will be:

  • Contributing to the harmonisation of data in the Information and Communication System for Market Surveillance;
  • Contributing to the development of general guidelines to perform peer review in market surveillance;
  • Supporting the review of selected activities in Member States;
  • Contributing to the development of methodologies;
  • Drafting comprehensive reports.

Qualifications:

  • We look for a person with a solid knowledge of project management, strong experience in drafting technical reports, good knowledge of databases and the ability to work in a multi-national team with a good level of spoken and written English (B2)
  • The candidate must have a PhD degree or a minimum of 5 years of full-time research or working experience after the first University degree giving access to doctoral (PhD) studies in the field of science (e.g. chemistry, physics or material science).

In addition, the following qualifications are considered as an advantage:

  • Experience in networking/committee work with EU Member State organisations;
  • Knowledge of MS Access.
