We are looking for an electronic or DSP engineer and/or software developer; fot the development of a diagnostic tool for tinnitus.

TympRes is a small start-up company, that is developing a medical device for tinnitus diagnosis, in cooperation with clinicians and audiologists in Maria Middelares hospital and Brai3n neuromodulation center. It employs two part-time engineers and an audiologist.

By measuring and analysing reflected sound waves in the ear canal, we obtain data on the stiffness of the tympanic membrane. These data are used in the diagnosis of patients suffering from tinnitus and hyperacusis (sensitivity to sounds).

Profile: you are an engineer with a knowledge of sound wave measurement (DSP), who is able to program in Python. Or you are a software developer with knowledge of sound measurement.

Function: in cooperation with the other engineers, you develop a proof of concept device: developing calibration methods, devising protocols, writing software for measuring and analysing the sounds, developing and adjusting hardware.

Personality: We’re looking for a someone who is creative and inventive on a technical level, eager to study in the field of acoustics and devise new solutions for technical challenges. The role requires drive and a sense of accountability. Part of the development can be done online. We have a preference for a half time profile, but this is negotiable.

Examples of challenges in the project are: correcting for differences in ear canal length and insertion depth, compensating for standing waves in the ear canal, correct calibration, making modifications to the existing probes,…
