Why do we need you?

We are currently looking for an AI Software Engineer to join our fast-growing team in Brussels in the public sector within the context of a flagship initiative of the European Commission, currently under development.

Your mission

As an AI Software Engineer, you will closely work with a team of consultants working for the European Commission. You will help improving the functioning of the European labour market by engineering intelligent tools for skills and labour market intelligence and career recommendations. We are looking for someone who is a team player and has a proven track record in building software solutions with artificial intelligence and natural language processing technology at its core. You have a keen interest in the employment and education policies of the EU.

The ideal candidate

Has successfully applied NLP and artificial intelligence algorithms in a product context before (e.g. forecasting, recommendation, prediction, outlier detection, sensor analytics)

Up to date on current trends and research in the field and has a good view of the ecosystem of available libraries, APIs and algorithms

Good understanding of semantic web, ontologies and knowledge graphs

Passionate about techniques as named entity recognition, relationship extraction, topic modelling, summarization, etc.

Good understanding of computational linguistics either through study or experience

Very good English communication skills (both oral and writing)

Rapid self-starting capability and experience in team working and working in an international/ multicultural environment

Interest for employment and education policy at EU level

Your key responsibilities

Designing and engineering tools for skills and labour market intelligence and career recommendations

Researching latest algorithms and libraries and adapting them to a skills and labour market context.

Designing applications that combine AI and NLP algorithms with knowledge graphs and managed classifications

Build a proof of concept based on the research and turn the technology into a production ready application

Assess data quality and completeness; suggest improvements for use as solid machine learning data

Build data and model pipelines

Review and refactor code to ensure quality and reusability

Drafting presentation materials and (technical) documentation

Providing support in preparing presentations to stakeholders

Drafting summaries, statistics, reports and briefing notes, meeting minutes and contribute to strategic documents.

Requirements
Academic background in computer science, engineering or mathematics, ideally with specialization in artificial intelligence or natural language processing

Strong software development skills including tools as Git, Docker and cloud technologies

Excellent programming skills in Python, ideally experience with libraries such as NLTK, Gensim, spaCy, PyTorch, etc.

Excellent knowledge of developing web applications and APIs

Theoretical and hands-on knowledge of data science techniques, machine learning, and graph algorithms
