Located on the edge of Adelaide’s CBD adjacent to the beautiful South Eastern Park Lands, St Andrew’s is the largest independent private Hospital in Australia, with 40,000 procedures being performed each year. Our patients are admitted electively or via our Emergency Service, and we cater for most surgical specialties including, but not limited to, cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, urology, vascular, colorectal, orthopaedics, daVinci (Robotic) systems, breast and gynaecology. Building on our successful base, in 2018 we completed a $50 million upgrade and expansion of our clinical facilities with more improvements planned for 2021 and beyond.

About The Role

As part of our commitment to continually advancing the skills and knowledge of our Nursing staff, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Clinical Educator (Level 2) to join our established in-house education team. The successful candidate will work closely with Nursing management to identify, plan, implement and evaluate training needs on an ongoing basis for our peri-operative staff.

Other Key Responsibilities Include
  • Developing annual education plan for the peri-operative area in conjunction with the other Educators
  • Organising and maintaining training for Graduate Nurse rotations that are part of the Hospital’s Graduate Nurse Program (TPPP)
  • Formulating educational material for use within Perioperative areas, in consultation with the Clinical Managers and other Educators
  • Monitoring standards of perioperative nursing practice on a day to day basis in relation to patient care, interpersonal behaviour/teamwork, staff safety and safe equipment utilisation (in collaboration with the Clinical Nurses and Theatre Coordinator)
You will be supported by our dedicated Nursing Management Team, who are enthusiastic about mentoring and developing our leaders to grow both personally and professionally. This support is supplemented by structured leadership development and management training programs. This role is largely ‘hands on’ in nature with expectations to provide support for staff within theatres in both scrubbing and scouting.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have extensive recent perioperative nursing experience (minimum 4 years) along with demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and faciliatation skills. Prior experience as a Scrub/Scout in one or more surgical specialties (Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Gynaecology, Robotic, and Neurology) will be highly advantageous. The ability to think creatively and analytically will be important for success in this role, along with a desire to lead and support others to ensure the delivery of superior patient care. You will have a passion for clinical education and ensure the delivery of excellence in clinical care our peri-operative staff and graduate nurses. In addition to your recent and extensive experience, you will need to demonstrate:
  • a commitment to delivering best practice patient care
  • ability to plan and conduct effective patient/staff education
  • well-developed organisation and prioritisation skills
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • commitment to your continued professional development
  • an interest in mentoring and educating our up-and-coming nursing students and graduates
  • the ability to maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
  • knowledge of legislation and standards related to Nursing
  • current registration with AHPRA and the ability to legally live and work in Australia.
Hours

Relevant Post graduate qualifications will be well regarded.

This position is ideally full time however part-time arrangements will be considered for the right applicants. The Assistant Clinical Educator will work predominantly Monday to Friday (start and finish times may vary to meet Hospital needs), with occasional out of hours or weekend work as agreed.
