Context of Need

The hydrogen activities are organized under a subsidiary called “John Cockerill Hydrogen”. This entity takes advantage of:

  • Its current position as the worldwide leader in the manufacturing of electrolysers with more than 25 years of experience
  • Complete range of integrated solutions for hydrogen production and refueling stations
  • Manufacturing capacities in Asia and Europe
  • Integrated test laboratory for key components of electrolysers.

In order to sustain its leadership position in this fast-moving market, John Cockerill requires its Hydrogen management teams to be constantly up to date on recent market developments (e.g., new government policies, competitor moves).

To reinforce our H2 technical team, John Cockerill Hydrogen is looking for an Automation & Instrumentation Engineer for its Hydrogen activity. The Automation & Instrumentation Engineer is part of the technical mobility department (10 people). The position is based in Seraing.

Nature and scope of the mission

Our Hydrogen technical mobility department designs and develops hydrogen refueling stations – HRS for light-duty vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the H2 Mobility Technical Manager, he/she will design and build complex Instrumentation, electrical and automated systems in critical environments.

The Automation & Instrumentation Engineer will responsible of :

  • Defining the Basic Process Control System & Safety Control System
  • Releasing the major engineering documents for EAI scope: motor list, instrument list, consumer list, I/O list, power and control cables, electrical and control cabinets specifications, single line diagram, automation architecture, wiring diagram, etc
  • Preparing the Request for Quotation Packages for supplier selection.

In addition, the Automation & Instrumentation Engineer will:

  • Take actively part in the selection process of subcontractors
  • Be in charge of drafting the technical specifications
  • Define and implement the architecture and the control systems for mobility projects
  • Drawing up the technical specifications based on the functional specifications
  • Select the appropriate instrumentation (TT, PT, FE, gas detector, etc) and automation configuration
  • Supervise the programming of the PLC and the HMI
  • Able to troubleshoot and conduct the commissioning phase (SAT and FAT)
  • Write technical documentation, advise, and train users and operators
  • Work in close collaboration with the project team
  • Regular contacts with subcontractors and clients.

Profile

  • Industrial Automation engineer (software) with a background in electrical engineering (hardware)
  • Academic and practical knowledge with at least one of the following technical field:
  • o PLCs (Schneider, Siemens, Rockwell, Phoenix Contact, Emerson)
  • o SCADA solutions (WinnCC)
  • o Programming languages (Structured Text, C/C++, Ladder, Step7, TIA, etc.) and their implementation in the various brands mentioned above.
  • +/- 5 years of relevant experience in a in a highly technological and demanding environment.
  • Autonomous, initiative taker and willing to take and carry responsibilities.
  • Excellent social and communication skills.
  • Perfectly fluent in English and in French.
  • Ability to interact effectively with external stakeholders.
