The Role
As part of the continued growth and globalisation of the firm’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) solutions, we are seeking to recruit an AVP - ESG analyst specialised in Financial sectors within the Methodology Development team.
Based in Milan, this individual will conduct fundamental ESG research, bringing a deep understanding of the material ESG issues within their coverage sector (Financial sectors) in order to foster the deployment of new methodologies on these sectors and accompany their effective implementation into the analytical teams.
This role successfully leads development projects and manages communication to the methodology development and analytical teams on differentiated insights to support the adaptation and application of our methodological frameworks to such sectors.
Primarily focused on leading the development of our Sustainability Rating methodology to their coverage sector, the role will then expand to other ESG related methodologies.
Responsibilities:
Author and/or project manage a group of methodologies associated to Financial Institutions through all phases from development to approval, publication and post-publication requirements.
Analyse, synthesize, and propose solutions or analytics supporting the development or enhancement of methodology frameworks associated to their coverage sector (Financial sectors), spearheading interactions and relevant communication with the relevant subject matter experts and other pertinent stakeholders.
Ensure consistency of principles applied to a group of methodologies through their development.
Author and coordinate the creation of methodology documents that clearly reflect quantitative frameworks as well as other important rating factors, white papers reflecting new evolutions, relevance, consistency and transparency of methodologies, as well as associated outreach.
Organize and conduct training sessions with teams to support methodology understanding, or regulatory or market developments updates.
Assist with ad-hoc quantitative and analytical projects/tasks.
Contribute to Moody’s ESG Solutions’ success through intermediary marketing and visibility initiatives (e.g. conference participation).
Act as a subject matter expert regarding ESG methodologies, regulatory or market developments associated to our solutions for any knowledge support requirement across Moody’s activities.
Collaborate with the Research & Outreach team to contribute to research on general trends in the field of expertise that is in-depth, high quality, insightful and focused.

Qualifications

  • Graduate and/or PhD level degree (Engineering / Sustainable Finance or MBA) is preferred
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience relating to sustainability/ESG, specialising on Financial institutions (Banks, Insurance, Development banks, etc) ideally at an Investment Management organisation, Investment Bank or ESG Ratings Agency. Significant experience on ESG assessment of Financial sectors is essential
  • Advanced knowledge of the sustainable finance, ESG and climate sectors, including market standards and practices
  • Strong quantitative skills and analytical problem solving required; ability to help resolve differing analytical viewpoints
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills including the ability to effectively communicate complex, technical issues to non-expert audiences; Writing needs to be well-structured and logical
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to adapt to a changing environment and to manage workloads, deadlines, conflicting priorities for self and others
  • Ability to drive work effectively in matrix structure
  • Can-do’ attitude, with pro-active problem-solving skills
  • Excellent proficiency of written and spoken English, with ability to analyse, synthesize and edit
Solid knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
