Mission context

IT Agile Coach

in backlog management

After the first phase of our transformation – where we reorganized our full IT department, switched them to an agile way of working and already included part of our business colleagues (mainly Epic Owners and Product Owners) – we are running a second phase of our transformation where our business colleagues are now integrated into the different agile constructs. This also encompasses a strong shift of empowerment to our tribes and squads.
Inside the Agile CoE, the main goal of the Value squad is currently to improve the product backlog management within the bank in order to increase our ability to deliver faster value to our customers. We want to embed the product backlog management principles within the different constructs by creating E2E reference cases and on the field coaching on tribe and squad level. By extension to this, we also facilitate, orchestrate and coach on several transversal ceremonies such as SAP and QBR.

Function description

  • Ability to coach on backlog management principles
Ability to embed backlog management practices at tribe and squad level and accompany them in their change management trajectory

Ability to formulate objectives and key results (OKR’s)
Help translate strategy into a concrete backlog items

  • Meet with senior stakeholders (including Product Owners & Tribe Owners) to understand their requirements
  • Provide concrete advice adapted to the agile context or suggestions for improvement according to objectives
  • Delivery-driven, committed to delivering excellent results in a defined timing
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate ceremonies within and across tribes and squads
  • Present and explain findings to any kind of level within the organization, from squad member to senior stakeholders
  • Contribute to embedding of continuous improvement linked to backlog management
  • Train or coach people affected by change
  • Share best practices from own experience on industry, products, etc.
The standard key activities of an Agile Coach are:
To participate to the further development of the transformation program
To implement change, aligned with the transformation program (Agile Impulse), throughout continuous improvement activities
To identify dimensions for operational improvement and leverage on tribes’ expertise to materialize good results
To coach others in using agile methodologies which bring customer and employee satisfaction and accelerate performance
To help people get the correct agile mindset and identify ways/initiatives to support this change

Bachelor or Master

Required experience / knowledge

At least 6 years of relevant experience, preferably within a Bank environment and some years within Agile

Technical experience

mandatory

Experience with backlog management across multiple tribes and squads
Proven expertise in Business agility, agile portfolio mgt, Backlog Management and Product Ownership

preferable

Experience in Process Management
Experience as a coach

Business experience

A vast experience in coaching

Soft skills

  • Curious: eager to learn on the agile methods and the clients’ wishes
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills
