Data is the new gold. At Mobile Vikings we believe that data is key to understand the needs of our Vikings, and to run an efficient business. We therefore value operational reporting (BI) as much as customer analytics/insights (CI), and believe that a proper environment is needed to support both. As a Data Engineer, you have a crucial role in making sure all setups are “always on” and the technical architecture is clean and state of the art, being there to answer our colleagues’ questions and challenges, and evolving together with the new evolutions in this world.

Great. So, your main responsibilities would be...

• Take business ownership of the relational and analytical data environments (Postgres with DBT for classic DWH and spark (Databricks) for big data).
• Fully understand the operational data models and transform them into data structures suitable for reporting and analysis .
• Manage the legacy stack and refactor it into a future proof solution.
• Define, monitor and follow up on operational processes.
• Safeguard the governance principles for terminology, report building, …
• Support our data analysts and provide them with the data they need in an easy accessible and understandable way.
• Optionally: build reports and perform analyses yourself to help out our analysts (the reporting tool is Tableau).

Because you’re the one…

• Who has a Bachelor or Master in Computer Sciences, or relevant experience
• Who has been working in a senior or expert data role for 3 or more years
• Who is familiar with the concepts of BI, relational databases, ETL, Kimball, DBT,...
• Who also understands or is willing to learn about the world of Data Streaming Services, …
• Who is familiar with cloud technologies (AWS, RDS, Aurora, EMR, …)
• Who is capable of working together with our cloud & infrastructure team on the kubernetes, terraform and ansible set up; they are the experts, but you know what they are talking about
• Who has experience with reporting tools in general, Tableau specifically is a plus
• Who is familiar with a high level programming language. Experience with Python is a plus
• Who can be pragmatic when needed, has an eye for simplicity and knows how to manage complexity
• Who has affinity with software engineering skills such as testing, CI/CD, refactoring in the data domain
• Who is an expert in SQL
