Milliken Textiles in Ghent is currently looking for a Development Engineer.

Function

As a core member of the technical textiles R& D team you own the development process, initiate collaborative new product development (NPD) projects with customers and drive them from ideation through scale up and successful commercialization. You play key role in leading sustainability and cost reduction projects and offer technical support to production. You report to the Development Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Own, drive, coordinate and support product development activity within the assigned projects across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Form a natural tandem with the sales team, including assisting in customer interactions.
  • Participate in the evaluation, assessments and approvals of material substitutions, new raw materials in particular with chemical suppliers.
  • Support production in process optimization when it comes to strategic products together with the Technologist.
  • Stay up to speed on innovation trends and regulatory changes and translate these successfully into customer solutions to maintain Milliken’s reputation as a strategic partner in NPD.
  • Positioning Milliken as a premium player in its markets by representing the business unit and its strategy at industry events, associations or industry bodies.
  • Work closely with the manufacturing, sourcing and finance teams to identify & advocate investments needed to stimulate business growth and projects to improve cost competitiveness.
Profile
  • Bachelor or master’s degree in textile technology, chemistry or material science.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in product development, innovation and building up application know how.
  • Experienced in dealing with customers and interacting with a wide variety of technical and sales people.
  • Accurate, analytical and project management skills.
  • Able to exhibit good balance between creativity and applied practical execution
  • Efficient communication skills in English.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office.
  • Willing to travel occasionally to customers and industry events (25%).
