Job Purpose

As the Director - Head Clinical Laboratory Manager you will lead a team of 5-10 Laboratory Managers and 40-80 employees, performing clinical assay development and validation, assay maintenance and clinical testing. This role will enable the Clinical Laboratory Managers and the clinical labs are performant in their project plan delivery, develop flexible solutions to enhance project support towards increasing scientific complexity and shortening of development timelines.

Your Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead a team of 5-10 Lab Managers and their team of employees.
• Responsible for the management of clinical assays that need to be performed according to
• GCP/GCLP, ISO 9001 and EHS requirements.
• Responsible for managing the clinical read-out laboratory resources according to consolidated plans for assay development, maintenance, and clinical testing.
• Manage laboratory budgets according to defined envelope and communicate deviation from target.
• Increase lab performance and agility to change through flexible resource management.
• Be the point of contact to other CLS organization to ensure end to end view on operations and resourcing needs.
• Responsible for the adequate training of the Lab Managers with respect to the activities performed and ensure people’s development to allow increasing lab performance.
• Continuously improve lab support to evolving project demands through the implementation of new technologies, data and documentation digitalization, automation.
• Engage teams to CLS & GSK objectives through regular communication.
• Escalate & act on any opportunities, risks and issues identified.
• Share know-how in the field of competency and support the management of some transversal initiatives within CLS in the field of competencies.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

• Master’s degree or a PhD in sciences or equivalent.
• Significant experience in the following laboratory disciplines (Biology, Microbiology, Medical, Immunology, laboratory Technology, Pharmacy orientation).
• Significant experience in leading laboratory teams including people management (9 direct reports & +/- 15 indirect reports).
• Strong Leadership, communication, and decision-making experience in managing versatile teams made of managers and employees.
• Fluency in English and French as employees are based in Belgium and mostly are French speaking.
  

Preferred

• Strong Project Management skills.
• Good knowledge in quality systems (GCP/GCLP, ISO 9001) and EHS regulations mainly.
• Experience across the disciplines necessary for a well-functioning laboratory.
