Context of Need
John Cockerill is today acting as an OEM for either EPC contractors or Utilities companies. We deliver boilers adapted to gas turbines, industrial boilers, solar receivers for solar concentration power plant. We are present on all continents and sell on a worldwide basis. Our main offices are in USA, Belgium and China. As part of the decarbonization trend, we have taken a leadership position in the manufacturing of electrolysers for the industrial production of Green Hydrogen.
The development of the green economy, with its important challenges and opportunities, requires a specific organization. For this purpose, all our renewable energy activities are currently being re-grouped under “John Cockerill Renewable”, specifically thermal solar, hydrogen and Integrated Renewable Solutions.
In a context where more and more private and public actors are looking to reduce their carbon footprint, while also managing their energy costs, John Cockerill Renewable ambitions to design and offer turnkey Integrated Renewable Solutions (“IRS”), combining a range of technologies (storage, PV, wind, cogen, energy recovery H2, EV+H2 charging hubs etc.) to deliver the most efficient solutions from economic and environmental standpoint. The clients targeted by our IRS initiative are private and public players active in the industrial and commercial sectors. Ultimately, we aim to offer Energy-as-a-Service solutions, in combining EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction), financing (with Cockerill Capital) and O&M (with JC Services).

Description Of Function
As part of the implementation of battery storage systems coupled (or not) to renewable energy production systems, of Cogeneration systems,…the engineer will:
- be able to study the capacity of an existing network (connected or isolated, island type) to accept the integration of an energy conversion system (inverter type) linked to a battery storage or renewable energy production system and identify the arrangements necessary for this integration
- be able to size a new low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (LV: <30kV) electrical network necessary for the need for a storage facility, cogen and renewable energy production
- be able to define the technical specifications with suppliers of components and materials: cabling, LV / MV protection devices, transformers, power electronics, etc.
- be able to identify the components necessary for the creation or modification of a low and medium voltage network necessary for the integration of such a system
- be able to establish an intelligent and critical speech with the various players in the sector such as DSO and TSO
- be able to carry out the specifications and the monitoring of an installation of a substation necessary for connection to the HV (high voltage) distribution network of the DSO
- be competent in the analysis and resolution of disturbances in LV and MV networks linked to the presence of power electronics: current loop, earthing and neutral system, correction of cos phi, harmonics (current and voltage ), EMC (ElectroMagnetic Compatibility)
- be able to study and be competent (with experience) in issues related to the dimensioning of protection systems for unconnected or isolated networks.
- be able to manage issues related to the control of different types of power electronics
- be aware of and able to study the issues related to the integration of renewable energy sources into networks such as the regulation of voltage and frequency fluctuations
- Specify the electrical equipment (technical specifications and / or datasheets for power conversion system (inverter), main switchboard, transformers, etc. from the single line diagrams;
- Establish, on the basis of the list of equipment, contacts with suppliers in collaboration with the Purchasing department and ensure the technical comparison of offers and technical discussions with suppliers;
- Participate, at the request of the technical project manager, in meetings with the client;
- Ensure the follow-up of external suppliers in the case of subcontracting of electrical studies (lighting, wiring, etc.);
- Monitoring of the schedule for the tasks for which he is responsible;
- Prepare technical specifications, develop and ensure follow-up of technical documentation relating to their field;
- Establish single line diagrams;
- Supervise the "drawing" function of the department in the performance of its tasks;
- Carrying out low-voltage, medium-voltage and high-voltage electrical distribution studies
- Able to use related software to perform basic design of electrical systems (such as elec calc, Ecodial, SIMARIS or equivalent) and also detailed power system analysis (PowerFactory, ETAP, or equivalent).
- Support to Proposals for the evaluation of the fairest prices
- Travel related to the function: meetings related to subcontractors, customers.
- Receipt of material from subcontractors on the basis of checklists for verification of product conformity
- Support in installation aspects, answer to questions from people on site + support for guarantees and after-sales. On site, carry out tests of the defined scope
- Be familiar with norms and standards such as RGIE (or equivalent), RTDE, Synergrid, IEC or equivalent
- Actively participate in feasibility studies of innovative technical solutions
- Work in compliance with the constraints and specifications imposed by the client, costs, margins and procedures (ISO 9000, ISO 14000, VCA, etc.)
- Support in the permitting process according to local regulations for aspects related to electrical engineering.
- You have an Electrical Engineering master (civil or industrial), preferably in Power Electrical Engineering;
- You have minimum 5 years experience in engineering in an industrial environment, if possible in the energy market;
- Knowledge of micro-grid, including batteries, CHP (engines and/or gas turbines), electricity (consumer list, SLD,..) and integration projects is an asset;
- You have a strong and autonomous personality, an entrepreneurial mindset and a will to win;
- You are able to prioritize and have an excellent sense of organization;
- You are resistant to stress;
- You are at ease in international contacts and relations;
- You are fluent in English, and French;
- You are proficient in MS Office
- You are available for short-term temporary assignments abroad.
