As Head of Bids, you will provide dynamic leadership to the Bid Management team across our diverse Country Business Unit. Your main responsibility will be to ensure the implementation of best practices in Bid Management, focusing on the development of people, processes, and tools.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a high rate of success in bids by managing tenders, proposals, and estimates, in accordance with the Group’s governance and policy, in a cost-effective manner to ensure sustained and profitable growth for the Country Business Unit (CBU).
- Oversee the project from the client prospecting phase to contract signing. Additionally, ensure profitability targets are met and risks are controlled. Provide technical and engineering support to the marketing and sales teams to secure contracts.
- Collaborate closely with various internal and external stakeholders, develop competitive bid strategies, coordinate bid activities, and ensure submitted proposals meet client requirements.
- Secure profitable contracts while ensuring customer satisfaction and CBU growth.
- Manage the bid team, providing clear cost and production objectives and guidelines.
- Establish the multi-year budget and annual budget projections.
- Control the production of the technical bid, ensuring adequate resources and compliance with project procedures.
- Ensure that risks and mitigation plans have been developed and reviewed for all functions (engineering, solution, finance, legal, procurement, etc.).
- Ensure that the overall bid is validated by the appropriate management (authorized) in accordance with Thales governance memos, particularly MRBOA.
- Control the bid budget with a focus on optimizing costs and allocated efforts.
- Follow up on bids until the decision and/or contract signing, particularly working with the sales team to ensure that client proposals reflect the decisions made during Gates 2/3.
- Take functional accountability for the successful delivery of bids to the CBU Business and Operations Management.
- Drive strategic capability planning for Bid Management, ensuring readiness for present and future needs, with a focus on leadership capability and future requirements.
- Provide strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring to enhance team confidence, competence, and talent within the bid management community.
- Establish effective networks and frameworks to drive development, improvement, and learning opportunities for the advancement of the CBU’s bid management capability.
- Evaluate bid delivery strategies and play a leading role in assessing and mitigating risks while maximizing opportunities.
- Ensure adherence to defined Group processes, policies, and standards within the bid team.
- Continuously improve local processes in line with Group policies and industry best practices.
- Civil or industrial engineer, Business School Master Degree, MBA or equivalent by experience
- Trilingual: French / Dutch / English
- Proven experience leading significant/critical bids in a high-tech and complex environment.
- Strong asset: Experience in hardware and software development bids for the Defence sector.
- Advantageous: Experience within international groups working in the public sector.
- .Proficiency in MS Office, Project, SharePoint.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to drive continuous improvement in a complex matrix environment (function vs. business).
- Extensive stakeholder management capability, both internally (cross-functional collaboration) and externally.
- Proven track record in providing coaching and development for managers and future leaders.
- Ability to work under stress, autonomous, and proactive.
- Versatility and flexibility.
- Interdisciplinary and creative approach, with a commitment to project completion, focus, and persistence.
