Jr Research Manager Plant Based Innovation

Mission:

To be an expert in physico-chemical properties of plant based raw materials and their constituents (protein – starch – fiber) and apply this knowledge in a scientifically-sound way to collaborate with and report to GRS, Business Units and Affiliates in innovation and development projects. To contribute to development and testing of (processing) methodologies and conduct highly accurate chemical and instrumental analyses to support & lead innovation projects.

Key Accountabilities:

• Build and spread competences on plant-based ingredients and their related processing
• Support Upstream innovation projects through precise chemical and instrumental analyses
• Initiate and participate to research projects related to the use of plant-based raw materials in close collaboration with Business Units
• Initiate and participate to research projects that bring new technologies and processes in terms of production of plant-based raw materials that can be used in new innovations
• Follow-up and build on trends and issues related to use of plant-based ingredients in bakery, patisserie and chocolate products
• Perform new plant based ingredient (protein – starch – fiber) screening and create digital overviews
• Watch-out on technologies, start-ups, partners, suppliers, …
• Contribute to developing and testing in-house and external (on the spot) (processing) technologies
• Data manipulation, reporting, communication and interaction with project stakeholders, both internal and external

Who are we looking for?

• MSc in science (Bio-engineer,…) related to food science or biology
• Profound knowledge on chemical and instrumental analyses. A background for/interest in food related (processing) technologies is considered a plus;
• Good management and organizational skills and able to work in a project mode;
• Excellent reporting, communication and organizational capabilities;
• Capable of working independently on aspects of scientific and/or technical nature;
• Hands on mentality, with excellent technical skills
• Highly motivated, creative, and detail-oriented
• Team spirit
• Agile attitude: adaptability & flexibility
• Very good communication skills. Fluent in written and spoken English. Dutch/French is a plus.
