Mechanical Engineer (intern)

Euro Heat Pipes (EHP) is a leading European player in Aero-Space Thermal Control Subsystems based on the use of Two-Phase technologies with more than 40 years of heritage in orbit and on severe environment applications. Created in April 2001, by spinning off, with the support of the Université Libre de Bruxelles – ULB, the “Heat Pipes and Two-Phase Systems” department of SABCA, this 100% European company can count on the experience of a highly qualified team and processes. In July 2017, Airbus DS became major shareholder of the company. The company is still growing, and new facilities are being built (in Nivelles, next to older facilities) to enlarge production capacities (production area is multiplied by ~4).

Euro Heat Pipes organization addresses full in-house capabilities (from breadboard up to small-medium production series) based on a staff of 90+ highly qualified engineers and technicians:

  • Design
  • Manufacturing
  • Quality
  • Qualification and acceptance tests

Euro Heat Pipes organization is based on a strong production/testing and quality approach with a successful partnership on Heat Pipes (HP), thermal systems and deployable systems with the main European Aero-Space actors.

Internship description

Your main mission will be to modelize different aspects on heat pipes and then to correlate the theoretical results with experimental data. 2 main aspects will be studied:

  • Determine the required effort to bend heat pipes: characterize existing results, determine springback, anticipate elongation, evaluate pressure/temperature impact, etc.
  • Analyze and simulate mechanical behavior in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) after welding.
  • Depending on the internship duration one or both subjects could be studied.

As intern you will also support other mechanical engineering activities such as:

    • Specify, conceive, and support realization of products and toolings
    • Justify mechanical strength of the products and GSE (analytical and FEM calculations)
    • Ensure the follow-up of the manufacturing and validation of the GSE
    • Support co-engineering with customers (Airbus DS, Thales Alenia Space, ESA, etc.)
    • Participate to the follow-up of mechanical tests (vibrations and shocks)

    Required competencies :

    Qualities and skills

    Autonomy and leadership

    Team spirit

    Communication skills

    Mechanical engineering

Knowledge in ANSYS mechanical analysis (static at least)

    Scholarship :

Engineer or equivalent level with major in mechanical engineering

    Experience :

Some project (incl. scholar projects and internships) in mechanical engineering will be appreciated.
