Context and Mission

“Product Development & Project” setting where Atlas Copco recruits a Product Development Project Leader to strengthen the centrifugal team “Turbo Technology”. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining centrifugal products & technology (with focus on dynamic compression). Developments can go from scratch to making the machine. You operate in an international setting where engineering and production are not necessarily located on the same site.

Team

Your product development team (depending on the project your team varies between 10 and 30 colleagues) will consist of specialists from different disciplines such as aerodynamic engineers, mechanical engineers, designers, constructors, rotor dynamics specialists, test engineers, software engineers... Also members of other departments will strengthen your team, such as purchasing, process and production.

Responsibilities and Task Areas

As a Project Leader, you guide a cross-functional team from the engineering phase to the final series production, monitoring project scope, timing and budget. You manage all risks and issues in a structured manner.

  • Your team oversees the entire process of research, design, testing of prototypes and entering series production.
  • You are responsible for defining project specifications together with all stakeholders and for setting up the entire project approach and plan. You report regularly to management and maintain a good relationship with the customer.
  • You look for innovations together with the R&D unit and external parties such as universities.
  • You work according to the NPPI (New Product and Process Introduction) process to guarantee product and process quality.
  • Travel ratio: You are willing to occasionally travel abroad for short periods: maximum 9 weeks per year. On average you travel 3 times a year for 2 to 3 weeks, mainly to the sites in China and India.
  • As Project Leader of a product development project you are also responsible for the technical part of the project. This means:
  • Ensuring technical coherence during design phase, supported by the latest CAD-CAE & tools.
  • Setting up a test program in collaboration with the test engineer.
  • Evaluating the test results, together with the test engineer and technology engineer.
  • Guiding from concept to industrialization, in close cooperation with process and production engineers, purchasing department and suppliers.
  • Profile, Desired Knowledge & Experience

    • You already live in Belgium.
    • You have experience as a Project Leader or Project Manager in an R&D, Product Development or Technology Development environment in the manufacturing industry.
    • You have a relevant engineering degree: (electro)mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, ...
    • You are familiar with the principles of project management and you have organizational skills.
    • You communicate fluently in English.
    • You are interested in development, validation, testing, design and manufacturability of Turbo Technology, Turbomachinery.
