Thales Belgium SA, Belgium competence center of Thales, is a company located on 2 sites, one in Tubize (near Brussels) and the other one in Herstal (near Liège). Thales Belgium, which employs more than 280 collaborators, is specialized in the design, development and supply of critical information systems for customers in the sectors of Defense, Security (including Cyber) and Aerospace.

Radio system engineer

Mission:

The radio system engineer will be part of the LAND engineering department of THALES BELGIUM, which is responsible for the integration of critical communication solutions for homeland and defense customers. The radio system engineer will be responsible for the engineering activities related to the integration of radio equipment into their environment (vehicular, soldier or terrestrial infrastructure), taking into account coexistence constraints and optimizing system performance.

The radio system engineer will also be involved in the systems engineering and IVVQ (Integration, Verification, Validation and Qualification) activities of radio product integration projects.

The radio system engineer needs to be a technical passionate. Based on his/her previous expertise in radio or telecommunication networks, he/she will be eager to discover new technologies.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Understand and analyse the customer’s needs;
  • Setup and improve the workbench for radio product integration, including RF measuring equipment
  • Conduct theoretical and practical studies to investigate radio coexistence constraints & integrations
  • Find the best solution and support the solution definition to meet the customer operational needs ;
  • Write technical specification definition and support the subcontractor choice for needed subsystem acquisition;
  • Prepare, configure equipment for Proof Of Concept (PoC) of solution;
  • Assemble the solution/product elements in a logical and controlled manner to evaluate the design, behaviour, interactions and performance, and to confirm that all requirements against which the solution/product has been designed are fulfilled ;
  • Plan and document the radio engineering activities of the project, including test plan, test reports and input for solution level documentation;
  • Support clients in resolving technical problems and taking advantage of such opportunities;

Profile:
  • Engineering degree in Electronics / Telecommunications;
  • Good understanding of radio integration constraints
  • Previous relevant experience with radio system and their deployment/integration.
  • Hands-on and capable of handling RF measurement devices.
  • Customer satisfaction and results oriented;
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and written;
  • Passion for technologies, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent in English (professional capacity); Fluent in French or Dutch is an asset.
