Our customer, S-Biomedic, is a biotech leader in the skin microbiome and a company of Beiersdorf AG. To reinforce the team dedicated to the research and development of novel biologic ingredients in the skincare industry in their lab in VIB Ghent, we are looking for a:

R&D Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Scientist to join our cutting-edge research team. The ideal candidate will participate in the design, planning, execution, and documentation of experiments in the field on microbiome research. This role also involves the development and implementation of bioinformatic tools for data analysis, guiding junior staff, and ensuring lab safety and hygiene.

We highlight the following tasks:

Design, plan, perform and document experiments in the field of microbiome research. The focus can span from molecular biology to fermentation and downstream processing.

• Support the Manufacturing team in troubleshooting production process’ steps by downscaling experiments and development/execution of QC procedures.
• Prepare and present scientific reports to internal and external stakeholders.
• Development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Commissioning and installation of new equipment.
• Guidance of interns and junior colleagues.
• Ambassador for maintaining safety, order, and hygiene in the lab environment.

Hands-on experience on one of the following fields is a must:

• Molecular biology
• Fermentation
• Downstream processing

Whereas experience on one of the following is a plus:

• Assay development
• High Through Put Screening

We are searching for someone with a master’s degree or PhD in Biotechnology, Bioscience Engineering, Biochemistry or equivalent. Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in a similar role as well as experience with bioinformatic tools for data analysis (eg Tercen or equivalent). Fluency in English is a must.
