YOUR TASKS
We are recruiting an engineer in auditory signal processing as part of the CoNNear innovation project. The goal of the project is to bring recent scientific advancements in precision hearing diagnostics and augmented hearing technologies to a higher Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and to market.
Your role is, on the one hand, to evaluate and optimize machine learning-based audio algorithms for real-time applications. This includes refining and testing software and hardware implementations that can improve sound perception and speech intelligibility for older or hearing-impaired listeners. On the other hand, you will optimize software and algorithms for the diagnostic analysis and classification of hearing damage based on data from ongoing clinical studies. Supporting clinical studies for the evaluation of our technologies is also part of your responsibilities. For the above tasks, you will collaborate with other members of the CoNNear team (including audio, EEG, and machine learning engineers and business developpers). You have a sense for commercialization and can communicate your developments with subcontractors, investors, and non-experts.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You hold a Master’s degree in Engineering Sciences (biomedical, computer science, information technology, electrical engineering, acoustics).
You have experience with audio or hearing device signal processing and/or embedded systems (FPGA, ASIC).
You possess programming skills in signal processing (Python, Matlab) and have some experience with machine learning (Keras, PyTorch). Knowledge of firmware programming languages (C/HDL) is a plus.
Experience with the analysis of biomedical signals (e.g., EEG) is required.
You can communicate your research results to various audiences (technical reports, project reporting, end users) and work well in a team environment.
Good written and spoken English skills are required, as demonstrated by previously written technical reports.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a contract of indefinite duration.
- Your contract will start on Select the date in the drop-down menu at the earliest October 1st 2025.
- Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
- All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (on an annual basis for a full-time job) supplemented by annual fixed bridge days, a bicycle allowance and eco vouchers. Click here for a complete overview of all the staff benefits.
