Job Purpose

Leads Quality strategy execution and monitoring in alignment with QA mission, GIO/Q strategy and Vaccines strategy (example: Quality Plan and Yearly Operating Plan Setting).

This role is also an accelerator of the Continuous Improvement (CI) transformation across the GSK Vaccines network to deliver the GPS Vision: build capability so everyone in Vaccines, everyday, improves their work in a systematic way, enhancing engagement and ownership, and delivering value for our patients.

The ultimate purpose of the GPS Champion role is to accelerate the adoption and deployment of the GSK production system, reducing defects and variation, creating efficient processes and building capability in GPS methodologies within every team.

The GPS Champion focuses the organization on making CI a priority, making process performance visible, and on the relentless elimination of variation and waste, to result in sustainable improvement of the performance of the site/ function.

This role ensures the effective building and translation of the GPS Vision based on capability, ownership, and business outcomes into specific GPS Masterplan for the site/ function, and ensures its flawless execution.

This role includes the accountability for engaging the site/ function leadership and employees at all levels, for building the CI capabilities, for creating ownership and imbedding CI in our DNA, for successfully delivering against the annual GPS Masterplan activities, and for ensuring sustainability of CI.

Your Responsibilities
  • Quality Strategy Execution (YOP and Quality Plan)
  • In partnership with QLT, supports implementation and execution of the Quality Strategy within the different Quality groups. Facilitates strategy deployment meetings, workshops and projects. Supports setting of annual goals
  • Drive the lifecycle of the YOP within Quality: data collection, populate the tool, assess the health of program / project, oversight on monthly follow-up and quarterly update.
  • Drive the lifecycle yearly Quality Plan: data collection, progress reports, risks and mitigation plans, oversee monthly follow-up and quarterly update
  • Support project management/monitoring system as appropriate
  • Support various teams, task forces and projects as defined by QLT
  • GPS Champions drive Continuous Improvement (CI) roll-out in line with the GPS Masterplan defined in their site/ function:
  • Work and engage with the site/ function Leadership Team to develop the GPS Masterplan based on site/functional strategy and goals detailing how GPS can bring the most business added-value. They collectively own the GPS Masterplan.
  • Focus on execution of the GPS Masterplan through engaging and aligning all site teams including Site Operational Excellence to deliver the Supply Value Proposition. Participate in deployment workshops and all initial site/ function deployments
  • Ensure CI is visible everywhere throughout all site processes.
  • Escalate to the site/ function Leadership Team major constraints or conflicting activities that will not allow the execution of the Plan.
  • GPS Champions are vocal “advocates” of CI:
    • Challenge status-quo of operations at site/ function level
    • Identify new opportunities for CI.
  • GPS Deployment:
    • Ensure the deployment of the best-known methods in the GPS starting with a strong focus on the Visual Management part that will allow the teams to identify variability & wastes in their work.
    • Working with the CI Central team, develop progressively the site/ function Lean Six Sigma ecosystem to tackle special and common cause issues:
    • Build site/ function CI capabilities at different Lean Six Sigma expertise levels in line with the GPS Masterplan. This includes the deployment of a coaching approach between Black Belts – Green Belts – Orange Belts
    • Continuously practice & evolve CI skills
    • Strongly Liaise, coordinate & align with the local CI team that will deploy the GPS Masterplan with their local teams (indirect reporting line)
  • Activities include participation in the GPS Champions network (weekly calls, 2 or 3 F2F meetings per year, travel to other sites):
    • Drive CI as 1 team with the GPS Champions network & the Central CI Team in the spirit of site/function strong, network stronger
    • Determine, implement and ensure adherence to common language & tools across sites/ functions
    • Share findings, experience & best-known methods across sites/ functions
    • Ensure sites/ functions implement best practices & best-known methods
    • Learn from other deployments across the network and build these learnings into their site/ function

Basic Qualifications

We are looking for professionals with the following required skills to achieve our goals (must-have):
  • University degree in Engineering or equivalent expertise in Civil, Chemical or Biologicals engineering
  • Life Sciences, Engineering or MBA
  • Need technical understanding of the complex GMP manufacturing environment
  • Advanced Degree in Life Sciences or Engineering completed with qualifications or business background with MBA.
  • Min 10 years’ experience applying strong influencing skills
  • Min 10 years’ experience in Production, Supply, Quality, R&D, or MSAT/Engineering
  • They need to be able to influence their site/ function leadership team and colleagues to challenge the status-quo and develop site/ function Lean Six
  • Sigma ecosystem capabilities and CI mindset in alignment with the local GPS Masterplan.
Preferred Qualifications

If you have the following characteristics it would be a plus:
  • Strong learning agility and coaching capability as well as collaborative mindset
  • Strong development capability – ability to move on a future senior leader position
  • Continuous improvement mindset required but not necessarily trained or steeped in six sigma / lean
  • Should be a strong influencer within current site / function. A leader (Someone folks will follow) – a change agent – well known, credible and trustworthy
  • Strong project management and communication skills – must be able to self-manage and self-organize work activity typically in strong succession plan position
  • Mobility (international travel as required, approc 2-3 F2F mtgs/year)
