Reporting into the Sr. Director, Global Research Category Leader, this role will lead an Agile team which is mobilized on specific Category initiatives serving our critical spend performance agenda for R&D categories which total more than $2B in Spend across Discovery & Preclinical, Chemistry and Manufacturing Controls, Lab Supplies Services and Equipment, Analytical Development and Testing, Engineering Services and Product Development, Packaging and Device Development, among others).
- Focus on a few dedicated, customer-centric projects as strategic partners of the business

- Prioritize customer and/or Procurement needs, experience, and desired outcomes while being stewards of the enterprise
- Continuously engage with business and/or Procurement leaders in ongoing strategic conversations and specify the intended outcome, eliminate barriers and connect the dots

- Measure performance primarily based on delivery of customer value, experience and results
- Trust and encourage iterative solutions that test, fail and learn to deliver improved outcomes

- With Category Leaders, BELs, FELs and CELs being critical stakeholders to this role, the incumbent will work closely to ensure all critical projects, programs, and activities are prioritized and supported by the Agile Team. The incumbent will have a significant opportunity to develop and/or expand mastery across the procurement taxonomy and beyond in areas such as project management and business engagement.

Lead or manage highly visible initiatives in support of category objectives driving business needs.
- Process Improvement (e.g., Cycle Time improvement)
- Category Strategy Refresh
- Buying Channel opportunity assessment and implementation (e.g., Marketplace Catalog, Preferred Plus, PO Under MSA)
- Marketplace Catalog Implementation
- Tail Spend Optimization
- Transformation initiative (e.g., Reverse Localization, SO2-SO3 Conversion)
- Market Engagement and program development/implementation of an Aggregator model (e.g., Discovery Sciences, Prototyping and Testing)
Based on needs and prioritization within the Category team, the incumbent will perform core procurement activities, such as:
- Develop, implement, and execute Procurement strategies that are aligned with the business/sector needs
- Ensure Category operational excellence, including but not limited to sourcing strategy execution, negotiations & contract implementation, Category card development/improvement & execution, and performance against established targets
- Drive Supplier Enabled Innovation (SEI)
- Facilitate the development, implementation, and maintenance of processes, policies, guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures, and Business Operating Principles
- Responsible for leading the long-term and ongoing talent development, performance and accountability for the Agile Team
- Foster a diverse and inclusive work environment and deliver against Diversity, Equity and Inclusion objectives
- Manage & prioritize Goals and Objectives of the Agile team
- Lead Performance Management and Development of Direct Report(s)
- Drive transparent, Credo-based and robustly continuous “5 conversations” dialogues with Talent
- A bachelor’s degree is required
- A minimum of 8 years of related experience is required
- Superior Project Management and Process Improvement skills
- High level of proficiency with core Procurement skills (e.g., Category Management, Supplier Management, Contracting, Business Engagement, Source to Settle)
- Strong level of credibility with internal customers, and with the supplier community
- Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of stakeholders (e.g., Procurement LT, R&D Business, Supply Chain and other Enterprise Functions)
- Demonstrated results leading cross-functional teams
- Ability to navigate and deliver in a matrixed/ambiguous environment
- Experience as a catalyst for change and innovation
- 2 years of people leadership experience
- Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment, while ensuring the organization is able to effectively and efficiently move through transitions
- Lean / Six Sigma certification
- Travel up to 10% may be required
- Ability to show strategic thinking and business acumen with strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to confidently present complex information
- Multi-country and Multi-sector experience
- Strong data analytics capabilities
- Track record of people management and development results
