Tasks & Responsibilities

The (senior) principal scientist within the Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics department will take a leading role in designing and interpreting biotransformation and metabolism studies, all aimed at improving our success in bringing differentiated medicines to patients. The individual in this role will be asked:
  • To manage and coordinate metabolite profiling and identification studies, including design, plan and conduct of in vitro incubations, perform high quality analysis and to write high quality scientific reports
  • To perform liquid chromatography analysis with MS, UV and radioactive detection, including method development and data analysis and interpretation
  • To put data into broader context, suggest and develop follow-up experiments and present and discuss data and/or studies with multidisciplinary project teams
  • To keep abreast with the current advances in MS, automation and related technologies and apply new technologies and methods to increase sensitivity, quality and throughput for accelerating research and improving the quality of scientific data
Qualifications
  • PhD in Medicinal/Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Pharmacokinetics, Drug Metabolism or related field with more than 10 years of experience in Pharma R&D
  • > 10 years hands-on experience in metabolite structure elucidation using mass spectrometry
  • In depth knowledge of biotransformation reactions and enzymes involved
  • Advanced hands-on experience in imaging MS, oligonucleotide analysis, protein analysis or experience in interpretation of NMR spectra is an asset
  • Clear interest in the application of bioinformatics
  • Experience in maintenance of chromatography and mass spectrometry instrumentation and developing and troubleshooting LC/RAD and LC/high-resolution MS assays
  • Ability to independently diagnose and tackle complex technical and scientific problems
  • High level of professional and personal flexibility, creativity and sense of responsibility
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills in an international team setting, including a matrix environment
  • The working language is English
