Avecom is looking for an experienced SENIOR SCIENTIST (PhD) to join our team at our headquarters in Ghent, Belgium. We offer a key role within our R&D team, leading and conducting research and development activities within microbial resource management and biomass fermentation.

The role will involve hands-on work in the lab and at our pilot facilities, and desk-based research and reporting activities.

Avecom is looking for a strong personality, capable of progressing R&D projects under the direction of the management team. Therefore, you have relevant, strong and accomplished research and/or work experience (minimum 5 years) in the field of microbiology, (microbial) fermentation and/or biotechnology. You are adept at developing, scaling up and optimizing chemical and microbial processes.

You have experience with EU project preparations. You have successfully led international projects at work package level. You have excellent communication skills, and you speak, write and report accurately in English. Knowledge of Dutch is a plus.

You show a particularly great willingness to learn and take initiative. You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You are creative, like to take initiative, are enterprising and know how to respect deadlines and imposed budgets.

You are prepared to travel internationally for short periods if required.
