Job Description Vice President Nautical Operations

As Vice President Nautical Operations for the Scylla Group you will be responsible for all nautical operations on our fleet of 38 river cruise vessels and on our Ocean-going ship the MS Seaventure.

Our organization

Scylla AG was founded in 1973 as a family business. We are an international operating shipping company with 4 country offices and more than 2000 employees on the cruise vessels. We realize high-quality cruises, from ship design to crew. The vessels, including crew and services, are marketed internationally. Our fleet of 38 ships is expanding and we are constantly on the move and looking for new opportunities.

The Team

Within the nautical operations unit together with an ambitious team, we ensure that all vessels can navigate their route without any problems. The focus is on training and guiding our crew, planning the sailing routes and maintenance and the appearance of our vessels. As a Vice President Nautical Operationsyou will have a team of Nautical Operations Managers, QHSE’s, Nautical & Technical Superintendents and a Locks & Docks department. Together they give operational and administrative support to our vessels on the European waterways.

Responsibilities

• Your main goal is to further advance our nautical excellence, promote safety in operations and maintain a strong nautical team supporting the overall strategy.
• Ensure the punctual and safe sailing of all the vessels.
• Manage the nautical team in accordance with company values, our cultural amplifiers and general guidelines and provide effective support to vessels crew and shore organization on queries related to nautical issues.
• Evaluate the nautical strategy and easily adapt to developments in the market.
• Review operational procedures and revise them when needed.
• Take part in the daily operation and administrative tasks especially pertaining to incident management, incident investigation and preventing escalation.
• Building a strong relationship with your captains, engineers and nautical crew. In order to do so you regularly visit the ships.
• Deploy your network to attract and maintain the best colleagues, in close cooperation with your team of HR officers and recruiters.
• You pay attention to the cultural diversity on board and advocate a safe culture in which respect for each other’s differences is deeply embedded.
• Communication with internal and external stakeholders as point of contact on nautical matters.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master Degree in Maritime or International Business Management
• Relevant work experience in a similar position within the Nautical sector.
• Knowledge and experience of ocean-going vessels.
• Experience with leading a team
• Outstanding planning, organizational and strategic thinking abilities.
• Strong social skills, solution-oriented, ambitious, flexible and quality-oriented.
• Strong communication skills and an excellent command of English in speaking and writing. Dutch and German is an advantage.
• Fulltime availability, flexible regarding working hours and ability to travel through Europe.
