Purpose of the job:
Accountable for the technical relationship with component manufacturers, the global technical coordination of off-the-shelf purchased components and the management of the OneBasket teams.
Main Accountabilities:Level 1 (black) / Level 2 (blue)
- COMPONENT MANAGEMENT:
- Maintains external contacts with manufacturers and suppliers with regards to roadmaps, technical & certification information, FAE networks
- Management & optimalisation of the preferred manufacturers by rationalizing and assessing new candidates to replace non-performing ones
- Assess new manufacturers wrt alternative requirement for continuous component availability during the life cycle of products
- Maintains a technical characteristics summary by component
- Limits the End-of-Life risks by maximal creation of multi-source components
- Monitors and tags the life cycle of active components from Preferred to Not for New Developments to End of Life in several systems such as SAP, xDm, SQL, …
- Follows up and processes discontinuation & change notifications by proposing alternatives when available & no major supply problems due to unexpected product discontinuations
- Support of acquisitions and divestments by data mining & data cleansing
- Assures the component creation is compliant with Barco’s Counterfeit Avoidance procedure
- Executes the component management strategy by component basket for Barco R&D worldwide
- Assess new Technologies & propose these to the OneBasket teams and phase out old technologies
- General support to Procurement (Logistic Buyers, Incoming Inspection, CPEs and PPEs)
- Drives early manufacturer involvement and performs BOM risk analysis
- Gathers the R&D needs as input for the component management strategy
- Defines the component management strategy by component basket for Barco R&D worldwide, by defining component specifications/requirements based upon future product specifications/requirements
- Collects and manages additional non-functional technical information such as certificates (Green, Commodity codes, COO, ECCN, FMDs, Safety certificates), simulation models, …
- Becomes SAP master company key User for standard components
- COMPONENT BASKET TEAM:
- Leads the component basket teams, by being a NPI delegate to secure early NPI participation & component validation and standardisation, defines and applies a strict procedure for component basket exceptions
- Supports the cost & value engineers towards cost effective products (PBA’s, mechanics, …) by installing component basket
- Communicates to all stakeholders and present achievements to a broader Barco audience (on a regular basis)
- ORGANIZATION:
- Coaches’ component selection competence with internal customers towards the use of components from Barco’s Component Basket only (preferred components)
- Drives early manufacturer involvement
- Organizes in-house manufacturer workshops, roadmap reviews, seminars, trainings, demo’s for the engineers
- Proposes and implement process improvements
- REPORTING:
- Gathers data and assists with compiling a result oriented and transparent reporting
- Manages the KPI reporting of the Component Engineering team and/or OneBasket teams
Required education, experience, skills and competencies:
Education:
- Master degree in engineering science, or equal by experience
- Additional training in component management and sourcing
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in a design environment or equivalent
Minimum of 3 years of Component engineering experience in a design environment or equivalent

- Market expertise of electronic or electromechanical off-the-shelf-components (related to his commodity portfolio)
