Location

Ideal locations include London, Weybridge and Manchester in the UK, and Brussels and Mechelen in Belgium, but flexible / hybrid working arrangements may be available.

Job Purpose and Impact

The external Public Relations team is a globally based team, part of a larger Communications function within Cargill. The function was designed to accelerate Cargill’s business objectives while building trust and engagement with key stakeholders and shaping and enhancing Cargill’s reputation. In this role, you will be based in EMEA and will support on media relations activities in the region. The Media Relations Specialist will use AP style to independently write media responses, press releases and pitches to bring business strategies to external audiences. You will assist with crises and issues management and will develop relationships with tier two and three media outlets and colleagues across communications, within businesses and marketing in order to execute consistent external communications on behalf of the organization.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop regional and/or business media strategy in alignment with the global enterprise and group communications strategies to advance business objectives and drive effective communications.
  • Build relationships with key country, regional and trade/industry media.
  • Advise regional leaders to optimally communicate with critical internal and external partners.
  • Lead, coordinate and execute media campaigns in the region across multiple channels to engage and align external stakeholders with key business priorities.
  • Support on issues management response teams alongside government relations, corporate responsibility and other global functions to handle the company’s reputation and license to operate.
  • Use global communications tools, templates and processes to facilitate consistent media relations across the company.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience in Communications, Business or a related field
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Demonstrable related work experience
  • Other minimum qualifications may apply
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to translate complicated messaging into easily understood language
  • Familiarity with agriculture and food topics and issues
  • Familiarity with sustainability related issues
  • Crisis management experience
  • Ability to navigate complex issues and matrixed environments and drive projects to successful completion
  • Demonstrable communications or related experience
