Position Summary

A Commercial Engineer positively affects the success of the Rockwell Automation business by being proactively involved in many diverse, fast paced, challenging projects that help enable the larger Rockwell Automation sales channel.

The primary focus of this role will be working with Marketing, Sales, and Engineering to support customer engagements and aid in evolving product groups. With products the priority will be the the visualization group, starting with existing FactoryTalk software as it evolves over time from Operations Technology (OT) becoming more and more connected to software solutions in Information Technology (IT).

This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability work with geographically and organizationally diverse internal teams and customers. In addition to strong product and application skills, strong commercial skills are also necessary. The position is based in EMEA (flexible on locations - please ask) and will require some travel in EMEA and globally, to support overall business objectives such as tradeshows and customer visits.

Responsibilities:

Including but not limited to:

  • Serve as technical expert to support and lead pre-sale customer engagements.
  • Work directly with customers supporting front line colleagues to aid pre and post sales opportunities.
  • Prepare technical documentation, presentations, webinars, videos and tools to improve sales force and domain expert effectiveness and support industry trade shows.
  • Presenting to technical audiences of differing sizes, virtually and in person.
  • Evaluate evolving and new products and provide feedback on technical features and performance as well as commercial value propositions link to attributes.
  • Develop enhancements and gap solutions to meet specific opportunity demands.
  • Guide and develop technical materials to support technical competency initiatives.
  • Conduct customer demonstrations remotely and in Customer Solutions & Experience Centers.
  • Keep current with latest, relevant industry trends.
  • Global responsibility could include early morning and/or late evening phone calls/meetings.
  • Capable of working independently and with limited supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Preferred 5 years related experience with:
    • FactoryTalk Software products such as View SE, ThinManager, AssetCentre
    • Knowledge of FT Services platform and associated elements, FT Linx
    • Knowledge of concepts around ISA 95, edge and cloud (including connectivity)
    • The concept of cloud computing (Azure, AWS, etc.) and FT Edge Gateway
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge or understanding of:
    • PlantPAx systems additional products e.g. Batch, objects library
    • Database systems (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, InfluxDB, PostgreSQL).
    • Wider understanding of other Rockwell Automation software products (hardware and software)
  • Ability to investigate & present advanced application solutions
