Context of the opportunity
To support the deployment and industrialization of many of the Group’s new solutions (construction of H2 Giga Factory, steel production decarbonization processes) around the world for our customers, the industry sector has created a new activity: Industrial Project Services (IPS).
This team is responsible for supporting our development teams in the industrialization of their new solutions, managing the construction of these new factories, and supporting them in the management of these large-scale projects. And more specifically for the services related to the estimating, detailed design, sourcing, project management, quality insurance and construction of these facilities all over the world.
The IPS department is responsible for offering and implementing EPCM industrial projects. The scope of activities begins at the preliminary design stage and ends at the start-up, which coincides with the start of commercial operation of the plant.
To strengthen the development of these activities, John Cockerill is looking for a new Energy Efficiency Engineer for the IPS Team. The role of the Energy Efficiency Engineer within this new department will be many and various. Your first role will be on the Projects which IPS is dealing with at the Sales stage or at the Execution stage.
Key responsibilities
It starts from optimizing the engineering of Plant Utilities (Power, Compressed Air, Boiler, Chiller, etc.) with a 360° and global Energy analysis up to the Installation & Commissioning.
It involves sizing of the equipment, writing the request for technical specification, distributing, and defining the scope of services, asking for prices, negotiating contracts, building, and starting the plant with different partners. Some lots will be the responsibility of entities of the group, others of that of external partners or subcontractors.
- Collaborate with internal resources, external vendors & external subcontractors through defined distribution and scope of services, floating enquiries and getting cost proposals, negotiate contracts and commissioning of Utilities through collaboration with different partners
- Execute the basic design of the Utilities based on standards, local regulations, the defined User Requirements Specifications and of a unit operation (safety, quality, affordability, maintainability, and reliability). Ensure safety during both the construction and the ongoing operation of the plant.
- Elements of the project (including technical people training, as needed) in performed in such a way that safety is always guaranteed on the whole project site and that a vertical start-up is assured. Select and qualify contractors and coordinate their activities. Ensure that John Cockerill standards are applied.
- Support the preparation and distributing the engineering project documentation, including the engineering part of the project.
- Manage resources (internal & external) according to project timing plan.
- He/She reports directly to the Technical Project Manager of IPS department and will be Based in Seraing, Belgium.
The Tasks For Which Its Support Is Expected Are As Follows
He/She provides support to the sales phase according to the workload in execution and the complexity of the projects.
- Considering local regulations and the specific needs arising from Customer
- Preparation of Basic Study Documents: Utility Engineering planning based on available Data
- Preparation of the preliminary supplier consultation file
- Clarification of scope and interfaces with suppliers
- committed to developing low-carbon solutions for factory utilities. finds opportunities for energy savings and contributes to the development of the best solution while taking energy savings into account.
- creating solutions to improve the energy efficiency of industrial buildings.
- energy calculations and analyses, which resulted in significant cost reductions for both Capex and Opex.
Your second role will be to handle techno watch on decarbonization, energy efficiency, industry electrification through inductive solutions and carbon capture subjects. You will be also in charge of R&D initiatives towards those subjects or performances improvement.
Profile
- You have a master’s degree in Electromechanical or Electrical Engineering
- You have minimum 5 years’ professional experience in energy efficiency, energy generation engineering projects in Greenfield/Utility EPCM industrial projects
- You have experience in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) of below Factory Utilities :
- Energy Generation (including renewable energy technologies)
- Boiler (Steam, hot water)
- Air Compressor & Dryer
- Cooling System
- You have a deep knowledge of Sizing, calculations, layout, Piping, cabling and routing of above utilities.
- You have gained working knowledge of energy-consuming industrial facilities such as boilers, chillers, HVAC, air compressors but also carbon-neutral energy supply options such as renewable energy technologies as well as efficient generation technologies
- You have a comprehensive understanding of energy systems, equipment controls, and eco-friendly practices for maximum energy savings.
- You have knowledgeable about how to adopt energy-saving best practices and tactics across projects, resulting in significant overall savings.
- You have a good knowledge of electrical power distribution and automation
- You have experience in Best Industrial Safety Practices during execution of project
- You are mindful of climate issues and willing to contribute to the net-zero carbon transition, leveraging your knowledge of state-of-the-art industrial sustainable energy generation and energy efficiency solutions.
- You are willing to travel abroad for project work
- You are Fluent in English (strong written, verbal, and proven presentation), French is a plus. Comfortable writing technical documents
