Position Summary: Packaging Engineer – Tessenderlo, Belgium
Energizer is seeking an experienced Packaging Engineer to join our team at the Tessenderlo plant in Belgium. Reporting to the Packaging Manager, this role will involve developing and delivering innovative packaging solutions for assigned projects with minimal supervision. As a key contributor to cross-functional business teams, the Packaging Engineer will drive innovation, cost optimization, and business continuity while supporting packaging development for the Americas and contract packaging operations. The role also entails managing project timelines, mentoring team members, and ensuring successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
General Accountabilities
- Lead assigned packaging development projects, collaborating with Brand and project teams to meet category goals and project deadlines.
- Facilitate discussions during packaging team meetings, addressing technical challenges and project updates with stakeholders.
- Develop, engineer, and test packaging components, ensuring they meet customer requirements, functional specifications, cost targets, and manufacturing and shipping standards.
- Provide technical guidance during the packaging design process, ensuring designs align with manufacturing capabilities.
Specific Accountabilities
- Design and execute new packaging solutions, including testing and qualification, working closely with suppliers from engineering prints to production tooling.
- Collaborate with Package Development Specialists, Technicians, and Operations to ensure accurate and timely creation of functional specifications.
- Build strong relationships and effectively manage projects with Marketing, Procurement, Logistics, Operations, and Suppliers.
- Stay updated on advancements in packaging and manufacturing technologies.
- Organize and manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment, adhering to timelines and priorities.
- Demonstrate project management expertise, ensuring activities align with project schedules and deliverables.
- Communicate technical and non-technical information clearly to diverse audiences, including Marketing, Finance, Logistics, and Operations.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Packaging, Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering.
- At least 2 years of packaging development experience, preferably in consumer products.
- Knowledge of packaging materials, including films (thermoforming), paperboard (cards, folding cartons), and corrugated materials.
- Hands-on experience working with packaging material suppliers.
- Proficiency in standard testing methods such as ASTM protocols.

- Proven ability to develop and implement project schedules while adhering to engineering procedures.
- Capable of managing project outcomes and deliverables while mentoring team members.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Problem-solving mindset and independent decision-making skills.
Working Relationships
- Reports to the Technical Support/Americas Package Development group.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including Procurement, Logistics, Marketing, and Engineering, as well as external material suppliers.
- Builds credible and effective relationships both internally and externally.
- Mentors and supports Packaging Specialists and Technicians.
Work Environment
- Domestic travel may be required as needed.
- Flexible work schedule to support 24/7 plant operations.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
