The team you’ll be part of
Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.
The goal of the Network Automation Department is to provide innovations in the near term for business group products as well as thought leadership for the long term in the areas of
- E2E architecture comprising different domains (fixed access, wireless access, core, transport)
- The composition of resources for an E2E service offering and corresponding service enablers
- AI-native network intelligence
- Network digital twins for enterprise environments
The Senior Research Engineer Network Automation is a senior individual contributor reporting to the Head of the Network Automation Department.
What you will learn and contribute to
The Senior Research Engineer Network Automation devises disruptive innovations and realizes them from seed idea to business group transfer. This includes identifying promising directions for 6G network automation and contribute to the team vision. They acquire deep technical knowledge of a specific topic and identify corresponding research gaps, always keeping in mind how Nokia can commercialize success in that research. The Senior Research Engineer should become the technical go-to person for that specific topic and be able to integrate that topic in a larger team context. They will share and present their findings internally within Nokia as well as externally at renowned scientific conferences or journals. With increasing maturity of the innovation, they will also closely collaborate with the business groups to commercialize the idea.
The Senior Research Engineer interacts with the following people and functions in Nokia:
- Researchers within the Network Automation Department to create innovations that are embedded in a larger context
- Researchers working on adjacent topics or ideas in the entire research organization in order to give and get inspiration and feedback
- Relevant stakeholders in the business groups in order to connect research ideas to commercialization and practical realization
Your skills and experience
Essential Requirements:
- Broad technical understanding of network automation including network slicing
- Proven track record (e.g., publication record) of deep research experience in one subfield of network automation
- PhD (or right before submission of PhD thesis)
- Solid experience in programming; experience in prototyping is a plus
- Experience in optimization and/or AI/ML tools is a plus
- Ability to efficiently implement own research ideas
- Proactive, hands-on work mindset
- Team player
