Responsibilities forInformation Security Specialist

An Information Security Specialist is responsible for monitoring computer networks for security issues, installing security software and support efforts across the organization to strengthen network, application, and data security. To do well in this role you should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science and the information security field.

This role will work closely with domestic and international peers, business leaders, infrastructure and application development teams to determine requirements and design solutions based on the continually changing needs of the business. This role ensures confidentiality, integrity and availability of data assets through the maintenance and implementation of established security frameworks and best practices. This role may also consult with customers, management, and peers to gain a clear understanding of business needs and works with other business units, both inside as well as outside of IT, to recommend and implement technical solutions that meet established objectives.

Information Security Specialist Responsibilities:
  • Monitor computer networks for security issues.
  • Investigate and document suspected security breaches and other cybersecurity incidents.
  • Install security measures and operate software to protect systems and information infrastructure, including firewalls, EDR tools, data encryption utilities and others.
  • Work with the other IT teams within the department to perform testing and uncover network vulnerabilities.
  • Help develop company-wide best practices for IT security.
  • Convey the importance of good information security practices and help colleagues understand information security management.
  • Research security enhancements and make recommendations to management.
  • Stay up-to-date on information technology trends and security standards.

Job Requirements

Information Security Specialist Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Experience in information security or related field.
  • Experience with computer network penetration testing and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, firewalls (Palo Alto preferred), proxies, SIEM, antivirus, and IDPS concepts.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate network vulnerabilities and explain how to avoid them.
  • Understanding of patch management with the ability to deploy patches in a timely manner while understanding business impact.
  • Working knowledge of established security frameworks.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient verbal and written English language skills, other languages a plus.
