EU R&I Packaging Engineer

As Packaging Engineer you’ll be working from our offices in Wevelgem (hybrid).

As part of the mission, you will manage the portfolio inno, reno and pack competitiveness projects, contributing to the preparation of the brief and responsible of implementation (tech choices and qualification of the packaging until launch).

You have contact with different departments within the company (R&I, QFS, Marketing and Sales teams, procurement, IRO/SU teams, …). You report directly to the R&I Packaging UBGN Team Leader.

As Packaging Engineer you have different responsibilities:

• Contributes to the development of the Brief in conjunction with its privileged interlocutors (local R&I, Marketing) and ensures that all aspects of the packaging brief are well defined (according to the 360° Holistic pack design wheel tool), in particular the needs related to the ambitions of circularity, recycling and distribution chain constraints.
• In charge of developing the packaging (primary, secondary and tertiary) according to the principles of eco design, DTSV and focused on value and unique experience for the consumer.
• Responsible for the packaging part of the projects entrusted from the Define phase to the launch phase and in particular ensure the management of projects, directly or via his collaborators, in terms of quality, time and cost as a member of a project team led by another function (IRO)
• Manage the projects for which is responsible according to the protocols and tools in force for the packaging part (PLM, Innopro, Iproview, ...)
• Identify, evaluate and prioritize the necessary actions to be implemented on its project portfolio.
• Responsible in particular for the implementation of pack projects in the factory, supplier management, the R&I budget of tests and the planning of tests in connection with the factory.

You manage test requests at the packaging lab, this includes: registration and follow-up of applications, conducting the tests, writing and distributing reports.

• Responsible for at the origin of new ideas, force of proposal.
• You make sure the lists of equipment available in the pack lab & the industrial lab and the associated operating procedures are up to date

To be able to achieve the above and be successful in this role:

• You hold a Master degree in Engineering
• Experience in a similar position in an industrial environment or related to technical processes is a plus

• Technical skills in packaging design (knowledge of different plastic materials: PS, PET, PP, PLA... and paper / cardboard, knowledge of the different technologies to manufacture packaging (ISBM, EBM, Thermoforming, labelers, end of lines, cashers, film makers, etc.)
• Knowledge of packaging regulations in the food industry.
• Knowledge of tools and methods to develop and evaluate packaging with a consumer experience superior to the competition. (UX methods, DTSV..)
• Knowledge of regulations and developments in EU on the recyclability of materials, etc.
• Project management and ability to meet deadlines
• Proactive, solution- and business-oriented mindset, continuous improvement
• Team worker, empowering, problem solving mindset, accountable & committed.
