Job Purpose

Your primary role will be to plan and manage the early stage design of strategic projects in a range of global locations, from earliest Feasibility steps through to the end of Basic Design.

Your objective will be to assure the design of new facilities meets all defined project objectives for cost, schedule, quality (fit for purpose) and safety, and they deliver the agreed business benefits.

Your Responsibilities

Supporting Business Cases:
  • Participate in the User Requirements Brief writing, led by the project user, to ensure all deliverables are addressed
  • Perform feasibility studies and develop concepts for new Projects including liaising with the Project Control group to establish preliminary cost and schedule for new projects
  • Perform analysis of production processes and operations and create calculations for capacity/ production planning
  • Help business sponsor to complete briefing documents and presentations for requests for design funding.

Early Stages Design
  • Where required, and in partnership with the site engineering teams, ensure good integration of any new projects in the existing Site Master Plan, or help create the Site Master Plan if the site is new
  • Ensure that facility design principles (GMP and non GMP items) are correctly applied in the projects
  • Organize design reviews to ensure that new technological developments are implemented consistently across all Engineering departments
  • Develop a risk management strategy for the project and implements associated processes and tools to ensure effective identification, monitoring and management of project risk.

Basic Design and Handover to Project Execution Teams
  • Maintain and develop the requirements for the performance of Basic Design and ensure their application on all major capex projects
  • Coordinate with the Core Technology group to ensure the participation of the Engineering members (Lead Engineers) to the Basic Design of the new Projects
  • Together with the Execution Project Manager and procurement department :
    • qualify the engineering services providers
    • define the appropriate procurement & contractual strategies based on the project location and the GSK Global/Local strategies
  • Ensure the correct hand-over of the Basic Design including appropriate approvals to the Project Execution Team
  • Help the business sponsor to complete briefing documents and presentations for requests for full funding.

Other Support Activities
  • Support the development of internal and external project benchmarking
  • Organize periodic reviews of the GSK standards and guidelines appropriate to early stages of design process in accordance with evolving technological and regulatory requirements.

    Basic Qualifications

    We are looking for professionals with the following required skills to achieve our goals (must-have):
    • Minimum Bachelor degree level in Engineering, Business, etc.
    • Significant in-depth knowledge of at least some aspects of CAPEX related design or delivery (e.g. HVAC, Process or Architecture, Building services, Project Management)
    • Proven and successful track record in managing large projects, experience in Project Management or PMO
    • Experience in indirect people management (multi-disciplinary team of experienced Project Managers)
    • At least 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry
    • Technically knowledgeable & credible to interact with technical and non-technical audiences
    • Strong Senior Stakeholder management
    • Excellent communication skills are critical for the role
    • Good proficiency in written and oral English is mandatory

    Preferred Qualifications

    The following characteristics are assets (nice-to-have):
