Portfolio Competitor Insights Director
Are you interested in a highly visible, strategic role that shapes GSK’s R&D Strategy by partnering with senior leaders while leading and managing a team of industry experts? If so, this Portfolio Competitor Insights Director role is an ideal opportunity to explore.
The Portfolio Competitor Insights Director will act as a key strategic business partner working with R&D senior leaders and the R&D Strategy and Portfolio team to provide important competitor insights to aid decision-making at an R&D portfolio and strategy level.
The Role
This position will focus on providing competitor insights at an R&D portfolio level, helping inform R&D strategy as well as assessing the competitor landscape in areas of emerging scientific interest across pharmaceuticals and vaccines, and benchmarking GSK against our peers in terms of key productivity metrics.
A key element of the role will be to continue to develop the competitor insight capability within R&D and as such the individual will need to take a proactive and entrepreneurial approach in this role. The role will require helping set competitive hurdles for key R&D productivity metrics and tracking our performance against them.
Key Responsibilities
- Interactions with the Strategy and Portfolio Management team, R&D leadership, Investor Relations and other groups requiring input on competitor intelligence and R&D performance.
- Creation of insights for R&D leadership, e.g. through strategy workshops, on how GSK stacks up against our peers on a wide variety of metrics and dimensions, and provide personal insight into potential implications.
- Working with colleagues to communicate the existence and responsibilities of the Portfolio Competitor Insights team, including the understanding of key stakeholder needs and establishing a schedule for delivery of regular and ad hoc competitor analyses.
- In-depth competitive intelligence research using a variety of industry tools and sources of information.
- Proactively providing analytics and insights that provide context to senior R&D leaders and the Strategy and Portfolio Management function as well as others within the business as needed.
- Commissioning work from flexible off-shore resources as required and reviewing / interrogating this work to ensure accuracy.
- Experience generating competitor insights, interrogating and challenging data and understanding the deep underlying drivers that affect the pharmaceutical industry and particularly R&D
- Strong ability to act as a strategic consultant and thought partner
- Ability to synthesize and visualise data to tell a coherent, robust and insightful story to the audience
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to communicate complex work in ways that are understood and are actionable
- Strong business acumen, big picture mentality, including a deep understanding of the healthcare trends and competitor landscape
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science, medicine, engineering, business or finance.
- Drug development expertise with experience in portfolio management, data sciences, consulting, risk management, financial management, and strategy development.
- Ability to define, develop and implement business solutions based on trends, opportunities, needs and market direction while acting as a credible subject matter expert.
- Experience in dealing with complex portfolio models.
- Ability to rapidly synthesize information from multiple sources, communicate ideas and data in a persuasive and influential manner in a multi-cultural environment.
- Ability to create and communicate key presentations to internal leadership and external partners.
- MBA or PhD degree in scientific or business discipline.
- Problem solving skills with limited information available.
- Ability to anticipates medium/long-term future issues
- Teamworking skills
