POLITICO Europe is looking for a trainee to join its Brussels newsroom for a 6-month period.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable ability to write quick and accurate news stories in English, and a strong interest in covering European policy in depth.

They will have solid news judgment, as well as being an enthusiastic and proactive team player. The position involves some flexibility in work hours in line with the demands of a 24-hour news organization.

POLITICO prides itself on producing distinctive, addictive and non-partisan policy journalism that gets the Brussels bubble talking. Our scoops and morning newsletters drive conversations that matter and influence those making or lobbying on policy on a daily basis, across 12 policy areas ranging from technology, competition, energy, climate and financial services to health care.

What You’ll Need

  • Background in European policy news coverage an advantage
  • At least one year of newsroom experience (also internships / freelance work)
  • Experience covering spot news and ability to write quickly and accurately to tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Fluency in other European languages a strong advantage
