To strengthen our Accounting team, based in our headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Junior Accountant.

In this role, you will support on general accounting activities with a strong focus on salaries & benefits (S&B). As one of our local experts for S&B key activities, you will interact with Finance managers across the globe, coordinate operational activities with our outsourced accounting partner and support local accounting processes together with the S&B Manager, who is the group process owner.

On a local level (60%), you will contribute by:

• Ensuring timely and accurate month end and year end group reporting in line with Group reporting requirements (IFRS) for entities in scope in close collaboration with the local Finance Manager, the UCB Middle Office and the outsourced accounting partner
• Being the local payroll general ledger representative, ensuring timely and accurate payroll closing in line with local and group reporting requirements for all the countries in scope in close collaboration with the outsourced accounting partner with the supervision of the S&B Manager
• Ensuring completeness of local payroll, calculating and validating required accruals (e.g. bonus/optiplan, holiday pay, wage tax reduction for researchers, etc.)
• Identifying and resolving issues related to month end, quarter end, and year-end closing in relation with the S&B calculation
• Ensuring all payroll balance sheet accounts are reconciled and cleared on a monthly basis (e.g. implement a tracking of the tax equalization)
• Ensuring internal controls are embedded into the process and supporting policies are kept up to date. Also, ensuring monthly payroll controls are in place and respected

On a global level (40 %), you will provide support by:

• Ensuring adherence of the S&B global process by all entities as defined by the S&B Manager
• Supporting the S&B Manager in simplification and further harmonization of the process (e.g. Expat/Inpat, Long Term Incentives, Fleet, Training, Tax Equalization, etc.), by embracing new technologies (e.g. Advanced analytics predictions predictions).

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or economics
• 1-3 yrs relevant professional accounting experience, preferably in international companies
• Strong technical accounting skills, especially in Belgian GAAP, experience in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is a plus
• Strong systems knowledge: Microsoft Office (Excel in particular), ERP (SAP), reporting software
• Strong business process skills
• Ability to research, compile, analyse, interpret and accurately report data, excellent analytical skills (critical mindset)
• Committal towards a demanding working environment in terms of work efficiency and quality
• Very good communication, networking and influencing skills within multicultural environment
• Proficiency in spoken and written English, French or Dutch is a plus
