Job Purpose and Impact

The Sensory and Consumer Science Director will apply broad and in depth sensory and leadership knowledge to oversee the global sensory program, define and execute overall sensory and consumer science strategy and be a member of the global Cocoa and Chocolate R&D leadership team. In this role, you will lead strategic, complex and global Cocoa and Chocolate sensory projects. You will also develop and maintain best in class capabilities for a global sensory team.

Key Accountabilities
  • Build global sensory program and create support for the program at senior business levels.
  • Lead strategic, complex and global Cocoa and Chocolate sensory projects.
  • Lead the development of the annual global department budget using information from regional teams.
  • Focus on new sensory capability development, including new sensory tools and panels to set up.
  • Receive regular reports on sensory research and use the data presented by the team to adapt and improve on global sensory goals.
  • Leverage knowledge of sensory program progress on a complex and multi-dimensional global level to advance the department’s initiatives and goals.
  • Act as a scientific advisor for new sensory or consumer testing methods and represent the company at conferences or other professional gatherings.
  • Develop plans and deliver results in a fast-changing business or regulatory environment, while leading and developing a team of experienced professionals, coaching and making decisions related to talent management hiring, performance and disciplinary actions.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of six years of related work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or other post-secondary degree
  • Demonstrated success with change management and ambiguous situations in global, matrixed organizations
  • Excellent collaboration skills and result driven
  • Confirmed skills in providing sensory advice to customers, internal stakeholders and third-party testing agencies
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in food or flavour industry (preferably B2C)
  • At least five years of supervisory experience
