The ‘Surface Technology’ resource team located in La Louvière (Belgium) is in charge of research and development of organic and/or inorganic innovative coatings with high added value for steel as well as new/innovative production processes to obtain them.

The ST Team activities cover the entire process, from the substrate pretreatment to the characterization/evaluation of the final products.

The well-equiped lab newly established at NLMK La Louviere gives the opportunity to the team members

• to apply and cure organic and/or inorganic coatings as well as the surface treatment;
• to evaluate the mechanical and protective performances of the final products according to international standards (EN, ISO, ASTM and GOST) and quality labels;
• to analyze paints and coatings for a better comprehension of the mechanisms resulting in the development of innovative, performing coatings with reduced environmental footprint.

NLMK R&D Centers are a platform for cooperation and sharing of experiences with universities, research centers and with new talents ready to take a step into the future with the global steel company.

To strengthen the Surface Technology team, we are looking for a project leader.

Main responsibilities:

• Redaction of research projects taking into account timeline, budget, workload of the operators, availability of the equipment and expected deliverables - Identification of scientific partners in function of the needs (Universities, Research Centers, external companies, internal departments)
• Day-to-day research project management in respect with the timeline and the budget.
• Reporting - results validation / interpretation and discussion inside the R&D team.
• Reporting - redaction of reports and communication to team leader, project manager, R&D director and customers.
• Support, development and validation of new analytical/testing methods
• Realization of tests, characterizations and analyses according to the internal methods and/or international standards ISO - EN - ASTM
• Daily maintenance of the Lab equipment and metrology

Profile

• Master in sciences / PhD in Sciences / Engineer
• Good English level
• Motivated / Open minded / enthusiastic / passionate

• Have good communication and collaboration skills
• Excited to work and learn in an international and multinational environment
• Ability to solve complex problems, can-do attitude

• Knowledge / experience in:

• Polymer chemistry
• Physico-chemical characterization
• Paint and coating industry in general and coil coatings area in particular (paint composition, binder, pigments, additives, …) is a plus
• Corrosion science is a plus
