Our Client is an international not-for-profit organization. Their Christian belief is that healthcare is a human right, and they are committed to reaching children and families in need of urgent and safe surgical care with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities filled with compassionate volunteer healthcare providers.

Currently they are looking for their General Manager for the operations in Belgium. This role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities aimed at overseeing and enhancing the organization’s operations within the country. This position involves strategic leadership, where the General Manager is responsible for developing and executing short-term and long-term strategies in alignment with the organization’s goals. This includes expanding the Belgian branch’s activities, particularly in areas such as fundraising, volunteer recruitment, event management, and human resources.

• Overseeing and directing the operations in Belgium, including leading the core team (80 volunteers & 7 permanent employees).

• Executing plans that have been approved and sanctioned.

• Development and implementation of the strategy for the further growth of the organization in Belgium.

• Building and enhancing relationships with various stakeholders, such as donors, major contributors, corporate sponsors, volunteers, media, international bodies, and external partners.

• Being present at own and partner events, as you are the ‘face’ of the Belgian organization, and having meetings with different stakeholders outside of regular working hours.

• Expanding networks and exploring new market segments to meet established growth targets.

• Taking full responsibility for the budget and achieving predetermined goals based on a strategic 5- year plan, subject to annual review.

• Promoting and protecting the organization’s image, particularly in co-branding initiatives.

• Raising the profile of the organization in Belgium and ensuring the maintenance of its reputation.

• Engaging in international projects and attending global meetings.

• Ensuring compliance with legal requirements, both within Belgium and on an international scale.

• You have both corporate management experience and experience with a ‘managerial’ role within an NGO, charity or similar structure where volunteers are key to the success of the organization (larger school board, sports club etc.). It is key to know about both a corporate mindset and a not-for-profit ideology;

• You are familiar with marketing & communication, as events and fundraising are key activities;

• You have proven experience in fundraising (campaigns);

• You are an outstanding communicator with strong people management skills, being able to persuade and convince volunteers, internal team members and (corporate) donors;

• You combine strategic and analytical skills with a very pragmatic hands-on mindset;

• You are an exceptional networker who can develop a solid network within potential donors and sponsors;

• You preferably have a strong (corporate) network already in the French speaking part of Belgium, as this is currently underdeveloped and where the organization hopes to grow significantly;

• You are flexible in your working hours, as meetings and events often take place after regular business hours. Hybrid working is of course possible;

• You are fluent in English, French and Dutch (written and spoken).

A challenging full-time long term assignment for an independent manager who will invoice through his or her management company.

Maximal annual compensation to be invoiced by the GM for this role amounts to 130K € (VAT & all included – except transportation cost). As this is a not-for-profit organization without commercial activities, VAT is non-deductible for this NGO.

You report to the Belgian Board & the International CEO.
