The role of Sr Automation Specialist is a new role that has been announced as part of the R&D capital investment.

This role will be part of the Automation Development team, under the Automation Program Manager, which mission is to drive the vision of automation across the Belgium sites, by leading the definition, implementation and application of Automation Strategy. The team provide dedicated expertise to support to automation operations & deliver transversal projectsforWavre, Rixensart and Gembloux to ensure that all systems, equipment and facilities are properly maintained, safe, reliable and compliant with GAMP.

The senior automation specialist is the expert in projects on automation for primary and secondary equipment and systems in GSK Vaccines Belgium (existing facility upgrades and new facilities). The Sr Automation specialist is delivering automation solutions for different technologies (process primary and secondary equipment, building equipment, utility equipment, environmental monitoring, alarms system, …).

The duty of the senior automation specialist is to support technical complex project across GSK Vaccines Belgian sites. The senior automation specialist must be able to propose direct and integrated solutions to highly complex technical problems and ensure the delivery of solutions from design to end of qualification, while providing appropriate training, coaching and mentoring of users, maintenance, automation technicians and automation specialist

Your responsibilities :

  • Provide leadership to a core group of technical engineers GSK or Contingents in the development of deep scientific & engineering understanding of manufacturing Operations and in the implementation of good engineering & design practices and solutions to support manufacturing, quality and research operations.
  • Ensure good exchange between several GSK departments, as project engineering, quality assurance, user production, MSAT, hard technology, asset care, to ensure the delivery of automation equipment’s
  • Be expert on automation for primary and secondary equipment and systems in GSK Vaccines Belgium. Work on automation system on several projects automation system for different technologies.
  • Support and improve projects on complex and Belgian transversal issues. Able to propose direct and integrated solutions to highly complex technical problems
  • Responsible to deliver automation modification on existing equipment’s and ensure the following of CAPEX project to ensure an easy take in hand of the equipment by the maintenance team
  • Support the full system lifecycle for process automation and control system including the design, assessment, selection, commissioning, validation and implementation of systems. Contribute to manage and simplify several system/process/domain(s) of expertise, to reach state of the art in production environment.
  • Contribute to SMR or L3/L4 automation projects execution & participate in decision making.
  • Follow-up on technical project tasks and distribute workload among Automaticiens / Automation specialists / operations / contractors. Manage planning & budget: ensure deliverables are reached in time, and within budget
  • Manage allocation of resources per MPU in collaboration with other SMR managers and automation engineers
  • Consolidate planning & status of projects and report to BeEM PMO and Automation Program Manager
  • Manages EHS aspects (Write & Review the PTW for projects activities, Coordinates the risks related to the coactivity, Collects and manages dangerous situations, Reports on EHS aspects and proposes resolution plans, …)
  • Be fronter or support during internal and external inspections/audits (L3, and L4).

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Automation, Electrical or Chemical
  • Robust experience with automation projects
  • Background in the pharmaceutical industry is highly preferred
  • CAPEX Project management experience … as PM or Program Manager
  • Strong leadership skills & proven team management

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Strong networking, influencing and negotiation skills to engage a broad community of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of specific Automation subjects as Data Management & Data Integrity, Obsolescence management, Cyber Security, process control systems is a plus
  • PMP / Prince 2 certification is a plus
  • About 6-9 years of Engineering experience in the pharmaceutical industry
