The Performance & Industrial Excellence Center (P&IEC) focuses on maintaining a high level of operational performance and lowest cost (consumption) in all Aperam divisions. Within this CTO department, Aperam is looking for a profile to define and roll out a roadmap, together with the departments’ head and the stakeholders on site, to improve the Technical skills of workers active in all Aperam divisions.

You report to the head of the Performance and Industrial Excellence center. Within your department you work closely together with the manager “Performance Improvement” and the manager “Cost Improvement”. Within the department you can count on support engineers to help you define and roll out the roadmap. Within CTO, you can rely on a technical expert team as well as other experts within the other CTO departments (mainly ARMP-WCMa).
Transversally, you will align with site managers, production and maintenance managers, as well as with central and local HR departments.

-Safety:

  • Field presence is in your DNA: You know the importance of being present in the field.
  • You have a proven record of being in the field to reinforce good behavior or correct wrong behavior.
  • You have thorough knowledge of just culture and you encourage colleagues to cope with the just culture approach. You use the output of those analyses as input for your learning roadmap.
  • You are a driver to realize the Aperam safety indicators over the different sites by sharing best practices.
  • You take safety into account in every aspect of your job (e.g. prioritizing learning paths, …)

-Operational:

  • You assess the training needs in close collaboration with managers and teams on-site, as well as with HR, by conducting analyses of competency gaps to understand employee development goals
  • You draft (general) skill matrices and help the operational managers to translate those matrices onto their team.
  • You define competence development needs and translate those into customized training programmes (various initiatives are possible: by training on-the-job, external training courses, other innovative and efficient learning methods,…).
  • You train and support managers to create training coaches within their department and to create sustainable training routines.
  • You support managers to document technical trivia/facts essential to know when executing their current (or new) function.
  • You estimate the cost of lack-of-skill for Aperam divisions and estimate the return on investment via OEE increase (or projected OEE decrease in case nothing is done).
  • You integrate the technical skill development matrix and learnings in the Learning Management System (LMS) tool.
  • You promote a culture of continuous development and drive initiatives to encourage continuous learning.
  • You keep track of trends and innovations in training and development
  • You work closely together with the other Aperam stakeholders/departments (Operational departments, HR, CTO’s ARMP-WCMa division…)
  • You support the sites managing the trainings under execution.
  • You prioritize the work in accordance to Aperam goals.
  • You supervise your project engineers with regard to the implementation and support of the projects on-site.
  • You implement automated (KPI) reporting tools indicating the progress of the skill development
  • Engineering degree
  • Willingness to travel
  • At least or 10 years of relevant experience and understanding of skill development, ideally in the industrial sector.
  • You have a track-record of being driven and result-oriented.
  • You possess a deep feeling of accountability and responsibility.
  • You speak, write and understand English fluently and can speak fluently at least 1 of the following other languages (French, Portuguese, German or Dutch).
  • Profile:
    • You act as a coach with a clear vision and decision-making
    • You create bridges between the operational departments and CTO and are able to influence/ persuade/ motivate your peers for a job to be done
    • You are a good communicator who knows how to listen to remarks given and translate these messages to concrete actions affecting your own work.
    • You foster an environment of trust and are able to resolve conflicts.
    • You are able to network within CTO and with stakeholders throughout the different Aperam sites by being “visible/present”.
