Moody’s ESG Solutions’ Methodology Maintenance & Operations team is in charge of controlling and reviewing consistency, relevance and suitability of methodologies and models developed across solutions and asset classes as well as of ensuring support and guidance to the research teams when applying the methodologies.
As part of the continued growth and globalisation of the firm’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) solutions, we are seeking to recruit a SVP – ESG Methodology Maintenance & Operations within the Methodology Group.
The Role
The SVP – ESG Methodology Maintenance & Operations will be responsible for setting up the operational model, building and driving the team in charge of reviewing existing or new methodologies before deployment, as well as ensuring consistency and quality of the outputs of methodologies deployed by MESG (scores, ratings, models, etc).
The core objectives of the role are to ensure that developed methodologies are fit for purpose, properly documented and transparent; to control cross-sector methodology consistency across all lines of business; and that their outputs are regularly reviewed. This role is also aiming at leading the set up of necessary policies, processes and organisation commensurate to the future regulation of ESG rating and assessment methodologies

Responsibilities
- Engage with relevant MESG functions and divisions to develop vision, strategic orientations and operational objectives for the Methodology Maintenance & Operations team.
- Set up necessary policies and processes to organise regular review, approvals, recommendations, and changes for analytical or content enhancement or existing or new methodologies
- Lead projects to improve guidance to analytical teams to ensure consistency with methodologies and adherence to best practices
- Represent the Methodology Group on necessary internal and external committees or instances in relation to our methodology controls and associated processes
- Guarantee respect and continuous enhancement of processes supporting methodology controls and validation, and engagement with functions for ensuring operational excellence
- Develop strategy and underlying policies and processes necessary to position MESG methodologies as a standard for their transparency, reproductivity, and adequacy to formulated market demand
- Build and maintain effective relationships with the analytical teams across MESG solutions
- Lead the methodology maintenance & operations team to ensure a high performing and effective collective work
- Represent MESGS as an expert spokesperson in seminars and conferences
As a manager:
- Line manage the team on their scope of responsibilities, providing leadership and insights to overcome roadblocks and promote continuous improvement of their action
- Generate senior management reporting and validate that reports are complete, accurate and produced on time
- Managing the stakeholder’s expectations and managing the communication to and from the stakeholder. This also includes identifying & escalating risks to the Head of the Methodology Group
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- At least 15 years relevant experience in ESG analysis across multiple industries and asset classes, in capacity to review, amend or challenge frameworks and methodologies
- Experience in a regulated environment, in a rating agency is a plus
- Strong track record of successful and timely delivery of projects in a financial services environment or in relation with ESG would be an advantage
- Strong quantitative skills and analytical problem solving required; ability to help resolve differing analytical viewpoints
- Experience in managing and working in remote teams
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Experience in managing stakeholder relationships
- Excellent written and oral communications skills including the ability to effectively communicate complex, technical issues to non-expert audiences; Writing needs to be well-structured and logical
- Strong organizational skills, with ability to adapt to a changing environment and to manage workloads, deadlines, conflicting priorities for self and others
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate complex business and technical concepts to a wide audience.
- Ability to drive work effectively in matrix structure
- Can-do’ attitude, with pro-active problem-solving skills
- Excellent proficiency of written and spoken English, with ability to analyse, synthesize and edit
- Solid knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint

The Methods, Innovation and Content (MIC) team serves vital functions to best ensure Moody’s ESG Solutions (MESGS) exceeds its market responsibilities as a best-in-class ESG insights and data provider, including: the development and maintenance of methodology frameworks, metrics and scoring models across our comprehensive solutions suite; reviewing the consistency and suitability of each methodology when applied to various asset classes; as well as program management initiatives related to the group’s remit. The MIC team consists of three sub-teams: ESG Methodology Development, ESG Methodology Maintenance & Operations and Program management.
