Responsibilities

Within BASF Seed and Traits R&D, biochemistry refers to the analysis of biochemical properties of cells and tissues samples.. The Biochemistry group in Trait Research analyzes metabolites and performs protein design approaches using detailed knowledge of the protein structure and function to develop novel trait recipes and/or leads. Biochemistry is embedded in a research department that focuses on trait discovery, engineering and evaluation. For the Biochemistry group in our R&D Innovation Center in Gent (Belgium) we are looking for a pragmatic, enthusiastic and inspiring Technician.

What you can expect-

• In this role you will be part of our Biochemistry group and support delivering on R&D projects at a competitive cost, speed and quality.
• As a Technician, you will be hands-on involved in the execution and organization of research projects related the analysis of proteins and metabolites.
• You will be involved in technology development and platform innovation as well as in workflow-based operations.
• You will plan and execute your work independently, in alignment with the team goals set by your supervisor.
• You will record, compile, summarize experimental data and report to your supervisor and in the relevant databases.
• You will contribute to optimizing protocols and workflows and you will troubleshoot where needed.
• You will act as a role model with respect to ensuring compliance with the relevant company standards (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, Biosafety, Stewardship...).

QUALIFICATIONS

• You have a bachelor’s degree Life Sciences (or equivalent through experience)-
• You have hands-on lab experience with classical molecular biology assays.
• Experience in biochemistry methods to analyze proteins and metabolites is a strong plus.
• You are attentive to technical details.
• You have a good knowledge and understanding of technical protocols and can contribute to optimizing them.
• You are able to self-assess the quality of the materials and data you produce and troubleshoot when needed.
• You are self-organized, able to plan and organize your work on a weekly basis.
• You have advanced computer skills (Microsoft office) and operational knowledge of relevant research software.
• You have effective communication skills, both verbally and written in Dutch and English.
• You are a team player.
• You are positive, enthusiastic, pragmatic and you have a getting-things-done mentality.
• You are an innovative thinker in process & efficiency improvement.
